What is the basic diameter of ww1 rigging?, color?.... If someone could get me a width..I could scale it down for my 1/28 scale Fokker DR 1
Thanks

Don't know the exact diameters of Dr.I rigging/contol cables, but I'll bet Achim Engels and the guys at Fokker Team Schorndorf (just "google" those three words) could tell you. I would guess the color to be "steel." I recently found a product that looks really good in larger (1/32, 1/28, 1/24) WWI scales. It's Sulky 40 (silk embroidery thread) #9421219 (steel grey) and #9421220 (charcoal) available at Hobby Lobby. Applied and seized with superglue, it looks like cable, but will be impervious to temperature changes. And you won't have to paint it!

(P.S. Whose Dr.I are you doing?)

Im doing the DRI 425/17 Manfred V. Richthofen, Revell of Germany 1/28 scale kit...
The kit's landing gear assembly is terrible and the wing to wing fits is not that great..I am not impressed with the kit.....and did it as a fill in for 1/48 WW2 scale kits....
SO IM GONNA GUESS the rigging is about as THICK AS A PENCIL...then scale down....
Think thats close?

Could be. . . I don't have a pencil handy to "guestimate." As for the color suggest you add a touch of brown to your red. From all I've heard MvR's kite was not screaming Ferrari red. I just finished the Fokker Streaked finish on my Dr.I, but haven't settled on a final scheme for it (can't decide how much of the finish I want to cover up!). Good luck, Rob

Greetings all; For the Revell '1/27' scale Fokker Dr.I try 'Model Supplies from Detail Assoc. Stainless Steel wire .010 diameter, package #3503. There are five straight pieces of about 12 inches for 2.50 USD. It is sold through Whalters model rail roading catalog. This is right for the scale.
You could use heavy gauge smoke coloured thread but its coloser to 5 lbs. test fishing line. For small rigging like 1/48 try .006-.008 blackened brass wire or 5-8 mil smoke colored invisible thread. The stainless steel doesn't come from Whalters in anything smaller that .010 dia.

I use .006 fishing line for 1/72 and .008 for 1/48.
I use a black marker pen to colour the rigging
