We've been waiting awhile now for Tom Hanks and HBO to get it together for their Mighty Eighth mini-series. I Googled it and don't see any news about it newer than 2018 and, frankly, I'm getting tired of waiting. So, since I know they visit this website frequently (yeah, right), I'm proposing a Mighty Eighth Campaign to force their hands! Any aircraft, vehicle, figure, etc. that honors the Mighty Eighth Air Force from its inception until today.
Any interest?
Michael

Sounds neat, I've got 4 opportunities for a WWII bomber. B-17F, B-17G, B-24D and B-24H. Looks like the Matchbox B-17G has markings for a NMF bird for 8th AF. I'll have to check the other boxes to see if there are any other candidates. Then, I would just need a ton of time and space to build and display one of them.

I'm thinking a year for this one. Give those show business types time to catch up!

I am so depressed. Dove into the stash last night, I have 4 four engine bombers from Europe. Between them, they have 7 sets of marking options! And all but one are for the
15th Air Force what's up with that? Only 1, a Matchbox B-17G, has 8th AF markings.

I'm in, quite likely with P-38J. Would've loved to build P-47D, but what I have in stash has markings only for Ninth AF.

After reading the above posts, I will not build any P-51's or B-17's. So I dug up a couple of Revell B-25J's. Does anyone have details of B-25's in the 98th? I cannot find any.

I don't think the USAAF flew B-25s out of Britain. They flew B-26s but only with the 9th, I believe.

From my fevered crawling through Wikipedia, it looks like B-26s, assigned to the 322BG flew with the 8th AF for a couple of missions before being transferred over to the 9th. I was desperate, my old Airfix B-26 contains "Mild and Bitter" from the 322BG, there was a moment of hope before Wiki dashed it by implying that "M&B" couldn't have achieved its glory in the 8th AF.

Lacking a good set of 8th AF decals for one of my 4 engine behemoths, I finally lucked out.

Turns out I have an Academy P-47D bubble top from the 78th FG.

LOL Bob, Google has caused me to go backwards on my search. I've had to open the kit, check the markings, identify the group then Google the group to find out if itwa part of the WWII 8th AF. It's been nearly impossible to go from 8th AF down to units then A/C.
And the Air Corps hasn't helped much. Seems like the 8th AF has so much goodwill attached to the name, that they'll do anything to keep the name current. Doesn't matter if consists of a bomber or 2 cops in a rowboat, they'll keep calling something 8th AF.

This site might help for fighter groups, anyway:
