Hi All,

I was hoping someone with much more knowledge than myself about wingy things can help me with pictures showing not only the wiring on the engines of said aircraft, but also with pictures / drawings of what the engine nacelles look like structurally with panels / engines missing.

I have only come across some pictures of damaged aircraft myself

The Catalina used Pratt & Whitney 1830s. Here's one on a Dakota. The Cat installation was similar, except that the exhausts were routed to the top of the engine rather than the side:

Jessie many many thanks for those pictures a great starting off point for sure!! Just a question though, would the moving of the exhausts from the side to the top of the motor changed it’s layout in anyway??

It's difficult to describe. The Catalina has 2 exhaust pipes instead of the Dakota's one. I'm not quite certain whether there were 2 manifolds (one to each side of the engine) or whether there was one large ring with one pipe on each end, wrapped up in a loop behind the engine. These pictures tease, but the manifolds can't be seen.

Does anyone make the main part of the engine or is their something close I could use? As I need to show a few damaged / missing panels that are behind the big bank of pistons etc

What scale are you building in?
Here's an R 1830 in 1/72 for the Catalina, and here it is in 1/48.

The Skyraider's R-3350 is less well served. This one is 1/72 but the only 1/48 version I could find is the Turbo-Compound version which was used by the Lockheed Constellation and Canadair Argus from Engines and Things. You'd have to do some serious surgery to the exhaust area to put it in a Skyraider.

The Cat is in 1.48th & I have the Aries update cylinders, I just didn’t know if the engine block so to speak is available?? I got the 1/72 link to open but not the 1/48th??

There was a typo in the link. This one ought to work better. The Vector engine has the engine block.

The only way I know to get a really good 1/32 3350 engine is to rob it out of the Zoukei Mura kit, which kind of defeats the purpose.

So if I got those would I need anything else to make what I assume to be the rest of the motor that sits in the main engine nacelles behind the exhaust pipes on the Catalina??

As the reference picture I want to model has some of the panels missing on that part.

You'd need to fabricate the engine mountings, wiring, hoses, cables and the exhaust manifolds. I think that if you ask those people who are restoring their Cat nicely, they'd take some photos of the relevant areas for you.
