Here is the Special Hobby DeHavilland Hornet in 1/72. The kit has got some mixed reviews in the press. I think it is pretty good. Canopy was replaced with a vac form item from an old Magna resin kit

The starter cart is a Flightpath item.

Excelent work Len. The only thing I suggest to do is maybe drybrush some different tones onto the grass area on the base to vary the colour a bit.

Hi Len

Welcome to Armorama. It's great to have you aboard!

The Hornet looks great. I don't do 1/72, so I've missed the reviews you mention, but it looks pretty much on a par with Classic Airframes' 1/48 scale version!

One thing I noticed - and it could simply be that it doesn't show in your photos - is that the Hornet's prominent fuselage strengthening band seems to be absent. The only other point (and I missed this in my 1/48 scale build until I'd finished) is that the outer wing inlets featured doors which closed automatically when the a/c was parked.

All the best - and keep 'em coming!

Thanks for the words, folks.

I agree aboutthe grass, but not being a diorama sorta guy......

The reinforcing strip is there on the model, it just doesn't show too well on the photos. As far as the doors on the inlets, I can't se them in any of the photos on the Warpaint book.

Hi again Len

I know what you mean about the intakes - in almost all of my refs, any doors are either absent or open... so much for them being automatic. Some things I've read talk about them as though they're obvious... but it's just occurred to me - the pics where I can see them clearly are all Sea Hornets... so maybe they were a naval mod. to prevent salt-spray ingress.

It's as good a theory as any, barring confirmation. LOL!

All the best

Hi again

Scrap the "naval mod." idea! :-) Wow! It lasted almost an hour - that's a record even for me! LOL!!

Going back through my old refs, I found two pics of Hornets where the doors are visible... just! It actually looks like some kind soul has painted them black or dark grey (just to make our lives easier :-) ), but there definitely seems to be a curved door sealing the intake.

I can scan the pics if they'd be useful to you.

All the best

Rowan
