Does anyone amke a large scale B-52 in 1/48th? I seem to recall one but can't find out who made it. I think it was a vacuform. I am thinking about just building the right wing for use in an X-15 diorama. If one is available can you post the manufacturer.

I dont think anyone makes one in 1/48 because it would just to damn big. I do know that Revell makes one in 1/72 and its big enough.

I've built the Monogram 1/72 once and have another in my stash. Can't imagine taking on a 1/48. The 1/72 version has a 34 inch wingspan.
For reference the 1/48 B-29 box is the same size as the 1/72 B-52 box.

Heya, Rocketeer,
I, too, have considered a diorama with the Special Hobby X15-A2 and a section of B-52 wing. It's a shame no aftermarket manufacturer makes the modified wing section and a pylon and engine nacelle to combine with the X15... That combination would look plane awesome (maybe you could mount it on a plaque to hang on the wall!! Oh well...
Good luck!
Aloha,
Johnny B.

Dear Havoc,
I am glad to see tht you have the same interest as I do. It would be awesome due ot the size of the wing alone. I built the Dragon B-52 iwith X-15 in 1/200 scale and the X-15 is so tiny in comparison. Imagining it in 1/48 with the Special Hobbies kit would be a uniquue model.
There are several conversion kits for the Special Hobbies kit. they are made by New Ware and their web site is www.mus.cz/~ales/newware they include versions for the old X-15, the world speed record and world altitude versions. They also make additiona decals just for the tanks. I used the world altitude version and highly recommend it.

Rocketeer,
I just checked and found that I have both the AMT/ERTL (B-52H) and Monogram kits in 1/72. Both are opened, but are unbuilt and appear to be in mint condition (most still in plastic)The boxes are a little rough as both kits are at least twelve years old, probably older...let me know if I can help you out in any way.......
...speaking of large scale aircraft, anyone remember a 1/48 scale C-130 coming out years ago...or was I imagining that it was in 1/48 when it was actually in 1/72?

Nope...there is an Italeri one out there.....saw one in a LHS today.....mind you he wanted $80 for it....would still be cool though. AC-130 would be even cooler.

I saw a 1/35th scale Search and Rescue diorama online a few months ago in which there was a scratchbuilt partial wing and tail section of a B-52 crashed in the Mekong River... AWESOME!
It can be done!
