Italeri makes all three of the popular c-130s in 1/48
The C-130E
C-130J
and the AC-130U

I built one along time ago and the detail was awesome, It even had good detaIL ON THE INSIDE, sUCH AS THE aIR CONDITIONING DUCTS

There are also alot of mods that can be done, most are availiable from Cutting edge modelworks, such as the Mc-130E HC-130P/N, LC-130 etc...

If any needs info on the C-130 let me know, I work on them and know quite a bit about them.

Herchealer,

Any chance you could advise what model C-130 would have been used for jumping airborne troops in '83-'84? Eventually, I want to model all the aircraft I jumped from and the "Herc" was the first...

How long was the kit? I want to get one but I had problems with previous Italeri kits. I wish their kits have very good fit with little or no filling/sanding at all.

Length: C-130E/H/J: 97 feet, 9 inches (29.3 meters)
so divide that by 48 and you should get a rough idea.

I do believe that the E and the H models were the only two Herc troop transports in service at that time DJ. If the Hercs were from Pope, they would most likely have been E's around '83-'84.

KKeefe is right it was either an E or an H, however they had one large and very noticably difference. The E model had a GTC with a door that splits, half open up and half down. while the H model had an APU which had a door that would open to the rear. they are both located just forward of the left wheel well. I will take some pictures this week at work of the difference since we have both here in Okinawa.

One external difference that is obvious for me to pick the E out from the H is a small protrusion on the E (some sort of antenna cover?) just aft of the cockpit area on the roof and slightly off-center that is a dark gray color. Was also a dark gray on the camo'd birds. That is the only external difference (from a distance) that I know about but, being no expert, I'm not sure if that cover was on all E's or not but it sure seems that all the E's I've seen have had it.

May the mighty Hercules fly for another 50 years! What a beautiful aircraft! Take real good care of him Jeremy!

yes the protrusion is an antenna. It was a ske radome. It was used by early slicks for formation flying. other than those few differences most of the old birds are the same. They change alot in the newer years. IE, different dashes in the flight deck, more pitot tubes in the front, they are even located in different areas, and of course, with the introduction of the MC-130P, MC-130E, and the MC-130H, many different looking noses as well as a lot more humps and antennas.

Herchealer,

I jumped at Ft. Benning during Jump School (June '83) and Pope while at Ft. Bragg ('83 & '84). Most jumps were from C-130's while a few were from C-141's and two from Huey's...thanks a bunch...

Hi there!

I'm Hans, from the philippines

I've just got Italeri's AC-130U. But the interior's dissapointing...

The Interior is just the plain old C-130H. No Battle management centers, and the only gun detail are the barrels

Need help in resource pics of the BMC and the guns (a diagram will be useful)

Thanks

Hans
