Working on three F9F-2 Panthers Kit has two "hook" looking thingies on the tips of the fuel tanks. I don't find them in any period photos. Any clue as to what they are s'pose to be?

A picture would help identify them. Also, which kit is it?

1/48 Hobbycraft/ Trumpy. I'll see about pics. Hooks are at lead tip of wing tanks and look like hooks you hang bikes in the garage with.

This kit?
You can ignore those hooks, they're entirely fictional. Trumpeter's research department hasn't done very well with Western aircraft.

Yup. Re boxed Hobbycraft. There is an F2, F2P, and F3. All are the same kit …. all come with the photo nose. Just different decal sheets. Hobbycraft decals include Argentinian markings. I thought the hooks were artistic license. Looking at all the in service photos I could find I saw no evidence of them.

Maybe they were used to hang the aircraft up under the carrier deck to save space? You could stack quite a few in that way

Interesting concept. Swiss and Vietnamese did it with their cave hangers. Only problem in an Essex class carrier's hanger deck that would get you enough room for a motorized skate board under it.
