I took the liberty of cleaning up Brian's ribbon a bit and reformatting it. I think we may have a winner! How about you all?

Michael

Thanks for the clean-up. It was needed!

I still owe you my suggestion of my idea of the campaign ribbon.

The three stripes (blue and red) in the center represent the colours of the Yin and Yang symbol. These colours appear in both flaggs of the Korean states, either.

The light blue strips are not only the UN but their barriers to protect the integrity of the Korean state, too.

The both red stripes at the flank represent the communist forces advancing from outside to the center body.

The red colour in its total dominating appearance shows the the aggression of the communism.

The white stripes represent the peace.

The major seven stripes in total are seven decades = 70 years.

And this it how it would look like in its final size

I like the first ribbon.

Does anyone know if the TBF/M was used in Korea? Have been googling for lists, but none that are really complete or trustworthy.

If not I will try to find either a Yak 9 or IL-2.

Bob, Checked the slim references that I had and I can't confirm they were used in Korea. There is limited hope, TBM-3Ws served until 1954. But I haven't even seen a photo of one with the post 1947 roundel.

GUARDIANS STARTED

First, another boring collage, with the chaos of my workbench on the borders.

Then, the instrument panel against the real thing.

Then, proof positive that I have actually started both the Hunter and the Killer

I have rebuilt a lot of things since starting Luscious Lady back in 2013-14, but these are the first out-of-the-box fresh builds I have started since then!

I've finished the build process

Some things aren't glued e.g. the entire tools, the barrel and muzzle brake or the hatches.

The rear lamp has been painted and masked as are the few periscopes.

The model is ready for cleaning and painting.

GUARDIANS - INSTRUMENT PANELS

After some frustrating masking to allow spray painting of the grey instrument panels against the flat black panel backgrounds, this was the result:

Digital camera details reveal the inevitable flaws, nearly invisible to the naked eye, which I'll fix armed with my trusty Optivisor and a tiny detail brush.

After this, I'll spray on gloss coats and then start punching out and installing instrument decals. Tedium ahead.

Hey folks Have started on my entry for this GB:Tamiya's Korean War M4A3E8 Sherman. AM planning to do the Tiger Face decal option. Build progressed quick enough. Only took a few days to build. Am currently waiting for the primer to dry so I can paint the OD on.

Finished the basecoat and decaling stage. I chose to do the Tiger Face option. I also did some hairpspray chipping on the OD. Unfortunately, I did not seal the paint well enough on teh turret so that when I applied the decals, the water activated the paint and removed the topcoat a bit. It also destroyed one of my other decals so I had to resort to using a spare in the mean time and trying to repaint aorund the edges best I could.

Here she is now:

Korea Campaign,
Last few builds for me have been OD-Green or Low Viz Gray overall..

Now, I wanna try and mix it up with some NMF, Natural Metal Finish from AK, Extreme Metal.

I've not done NMF with this line of paints and will keep the build to "mostly" OOB build w/'some' PE and Resin....

(I always say: NOT toooo much on the aftermarket stuff..)

One thing that really needed to be updated were the Decals.
These Decals on this kit are older, thick, and are starting to yellow.

Here we go.....
1/48 Hasagawa F-86F-30

Started to drop some paint on this build is.........

Here is my entry:

Centurion Mk III (early version) from AFV Club in 1/35.
The model will depict vehicle from C-Squadron of 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars, while the unit was a part of the 29th Infantry Brigade Group in Korea in 1951. AFV club offers four different markings from Korea and for a late version of the tank serving in Hong Kong. Obviously my choice was pre-determined. I started reading about the actions of 8th KRIH in Korea, and quickly I have made my decision on marking I will use.
The Unit arrived in Korea on 14th November 1950. In April 1951 it was stationed at Imjin River. Since there was a lull in the fighting, British command decided to rotate 8th KRIH back to the UK. Two squadrons, along with HQ squadron, were sent home reaching Kure in Japan when the hell broke loose.
On 22nf April 1951 massive Chinese offensive has started with violent fightings erupted at Imjin River. Here, along with the other units of 29th Infantry Brigade Group was left behind by being withdrawn regiment C-Squadron of 8th KRIH (all unit was sent back to Korea immediately). The squadron played a crucial role in the fighting and later withdrawal of UN units. During this battle, Centurion gained its fame of the best of the UN forces tank in Korea.

Hi all,

I like Brian's cleaned up ribbon!

A bit of progress made on my F9F. This Trumpeter kit is a world of difference compared to their Vigilante. I began by painting the cockpit interior with interior green on the lower side, and NATO black on everything above the instrument panel. The film and PE instrument panel looks pretty good. Not sure how much will be seen though.

The rest of the kit seemed to fall together, granted there is a low part count. A little Mr. Surfacer 500 took care of the small gap areas, mostly around the nose attachment point. I also added about 20g of weight to the front end.

Since I'm going to do this one with the wings up, I'm ready to put some tissue into the wells, and make a nice gloss sea blue bird!

More to follow soon! This is a fun kit so far!

Take care, and have fun!

Here we go.
It is a typical AFV Club kit, soft plastic, multitude of super-small parts, sometimes enormous attachment bridges (especially on frets dated 2006) and sinkholes. Surprisingly refuel covers are moulded on the parts, yet looking good.

Word of advice as manual is not accurate here, nor mounting guides are present in two cases. Top rear plate has to be mounted a bit deeper, not flush with sides of the hull. It should reach indentations for rearmost grille part. I had to fill up the gap and add styrene strips to the sides of the plate to simulate extending side armour plates.

.

Similarly, at the front nearby driver's hatch, I had to fill up to very small gaps. Closing them by pushing parts together would effect in bigger fit problems. Here a bit of challenge is the installation of the part with driver's hatch, unique for this tank. There is no clear indication of how to do this, and finally looking at the real tank photos, I concluded that front of this element has to under the front armour.

In general model is very well designed and detailed, except those problems I mentioned above.

Greetings Everyone,
Just enlisted because I noticed that this guy from my stash was in Korea during the war. Will probably get started in a week or so after I finish my current project.

Moving to 'Paint-Shop'.....

Construction has been slow... not cuz of any assembly or fit issues but lack of motivation....this pandemic has taken the energy out of doing anything except washing hands and a lack of enthusiasm of anything......

USED EXTRA SPRUE TO CONFIGURE A 'STAND' TO SUPPORT PAINTING...

TEMPARARILY FIXED CANOPY TO PAINT ALL NMF....
(( Not sure exactly what brand to use for overall coat ))

Hopefully will be completing soon...

Dang, great work goin on here. I really gotta get started.
My plan is to make the Matchbox F3D as a Marine F3D-2N from VMF(N)-513.

It's a classic Matchbox kit with 3 different colored sprues.

Getting right to it. Generally speaking I'm leery of the multi part lower hulls, but this went together really well and seems to be square.

Memories there Mark. I never actually acquired that Matchbox kit, but built a lot of others. I recently made a hash of their Hawk 200 kit.... my first aircraft kit in decades...

Another old kit getting some limelight time Guy. Great to see the love being shown for kits that are not the latest and greatest.
