I'm interested in how many of you guys have built vacform kits.
My aviation interest is in post war FAA aircraft and as I build only 1/48 scale kits now, I have had no option other than the vacform route for many subjects.
Thankfully, Dynavector cover a few of the subjects and their kits are amazing (I have all except the TSR2 and the Skyshark). I've also got the Aeroclub Sea Venom & Canberra and a Falcon Sea Hawk but now Classic Airframes have hopefully made that one an eBay special
My previous experience with vacforms is quite limited, Aeroclub 1/72 Gannet AEW.3 & Lightning T.4 conversions and a Rareplanes 1/72 A-3 Skywarrior kit (bought and started just before Hasegawa released theirs ) I also started an Aircraft in Miniature BAe Nimrod but never got it finished, now that was soul destroying.
I just wondered how many of you also build vacs and what your experiences are with them.
Happy modelling

Hi Ant
I've built a fair number of vacuforms overt the years and am a big fan. I can't really understand how they've got the reputation for being particularly "difficult" to build - in some ways they can be less hassle than short run plastic or resin kits.
While it's a shame that they aren't more popular, it's pretty cool to build a model that has a degree of "rarity value".
All the best

Hi there
I bought a 1:72 seafire kit oneday not realising that it was a vacform and for some reason I've never got round to starting it.

One 1/48 CW-21B from Sierra Scale on the bench, pretty much massacred the thing, but I have a Aviation Usk B-32 in the stash, I should pull this one much better though!

I have started several vac kits and have many more in storage. It is a godsend for a "between-the-wars" builder.

I own two vacuformed aircraft kits. The first one is something called an L-5A Stinson Sentinel by Rare Planes in 1/72 scale. Neat little kit that has clear fuselage halves because of all the cockpit glass. I've bought a set of True Detail wheels and an Aeroclub propellor from the clearance bin so I didn't have to mess with the vacumformed wheels and prop.
Someone gave me this really big British jet (Sea Sprite?) that was vacuformed. It was huge and beyond my meager abilities, so it sits unbuilt awaiting final disposition to whomever wants it. I believe it did not come with a canopy or the canopy is missing.
