Hey all, long time reader first time submitter. This is my first model after a 5-year hiatus. It's a Tamiya T62 done up to look like a Russian tank in Chechnya. Any critiques are more than welcome, as I'm just getting back into the swing of things. I think I need to dull-cote the decals and add some tone variations in the mud.

It looks a well beaten up and weathered model. For a first after five years, its really impressive. I really like the numbering on the turret. Although I dont know much about modern russian armor, this stand out as as strange. Would the turret numbers be painted on so roughly in a modern tank? The grip rails on the turret ... have you made these from wire? They look huge. Looking down on the tracks on the second foto, the tracks look very clean, compared to dusting on the rest of the vehicle.

A little variation on the dirt will help, but the running gear and tracks look really good. Are these the kit tracks? The sag looks excellent.
Sorry i cant be of more help, but all I can say is, overall i think you have an impressive come back. Welcome to armorama as well! Hope to see more!

Hey, thanks for the reply and comments. The numbers are a bit rough, got a little excited with the dirt application. I tried making the decals using Testor's custom decal kit, but since my printer doesn't print white, I had to make the numbers in dark yellow and then paint over them with white paint, hence the rough shape. Any idea how to make custom white decals without having to trim the heck out of a white sheet? The tracks are the kit vinyl ones, I just used some superglue to hold them down. The hand rails are stock as well, that's why they're kind of large. I know it sounds bad but I didn't feel like fiddling with wire at that time, maybe I'll go back and fix that though. I also think I'm going to make a mud/static grass mixture and put it in the track crevices. Thanks again for the comments, and here's a shot of the real thing. It would be cool to replicate those moving boxes!

Nice model. You should add some heavy wash on mud and darken it. I recommand also to use dark pastels on this mud. Now It looks too pinky.

hey Planadude,

yes you're right adding variations to your mud will notably change the weathering effect of your model..give it a shade of lighter and darker contrast.

I like your model very much! - Real tanks get very dirty very easy! And yours sure is dirty!
Maybe the roadwheels should be more "muddy", like the rest of the hull?
