Hey u pros out there!
I recently finished a 1/72 Academy Hurricane. But I couldn't think of any substitute to put as an IFF wire between the 2 antennas on top of the Hurri. Maybe the scale is too tiny? Let me know if u have any suggestions.

Hi SF,
It's me again... You can use stretched sprue as antenna wire for your Hurri. I used it for mine..check it out here if you like..
Royal Indian AF Hurri
It's pretty easy to make antenna wire. Here are the steps:
1. Cut off a 2-3 inch piece of sprue from the trees.
2. Heat above a candle flame, with a gap of at least 1 cm between the flame and sprue.
3. Constantly turn the piece between your fingertips, so as to ensure uniform heating. Also take care to see that the thing doesn't trun black with overheating.
4. After 10 secs of heating(generally !), the piece starts to sag at the middle. Now, pull apart gently at both ends, until you have the antenna wire of desired thickness.
5. Drill a small hole on the antenna holder on the plane carefully, using a 0.25 mm drillbit fastened in a pin vise. Pass one end of wire thru this, and the other gets terminated at the tail tip. Voila! Antenna ready!
Tips:
1. Don't pull apart too fast or too slow. If you are too fast, you'll just break the sprue. Too slow, and you'll have a thicker bit of wire, or worse, bumps at different parts on the sprue.
2. Practice makes perfect. You'll get the hang of it after you've stretched about 5-7 pieces(or more !)
3. Be careful not to burn your fingertips by going too close to the flame.
4. Try not to inhale the vapours from heating sprue as much as possible!

The 'c' suffix on WW2 RAF fighters meant that it had a cannon armament rather than machine guns.
'a' = machine gun only
'b' = (Spitfire) cannon and mg
'c' = (Hurricane) cannon only (Spitfire) = 'Universal' wing, could be configured for either 'a' or 'b' armament, with .50 calibre or .303 machine guns
'd' = (Hurricane) underwing 40mm anti-tank cannon
'e'= (Spitfire) cannon & .50 mg, easily distinguished as longer cannon barrel outboard.
Hope this is useful

Hi, Take a look at my Spitfire on line build, it gives another method for producing antenna and IFF wires. Spitfire on line The link will take you to the correct page, start at pic 125, the IFF wires are covered on the next page. I'm not sure that the Mk IIC carried IFF wires? Apart from night intruders, that is.
Hope this helps.

Thanx DaveCox and Holdfast both of your info was very helpful.
Thanx for the designations DC, I really thought I was building a nonexistant plane!
Got a good look at those pics, invisible thread is a good idea (if I can get it here!).
