Merlin,... I got the idea from Verlinden. They use silver printers ink toned down with raw umber artist oil paint. I could not find silver printers ink so I used ModelMaster Chrome Silver instead. It works just fine. Depending on how bright you want the paint chipping to be you can experiment with different amounts of raw umber artist oil paint, hope this helps.
THANKS Wingman out.

Or if you have a steady hand use silver paint and a small brush.
Don't forget to think about where chips would appear on the aircraft.....
Around doors, maintenance panels, ladders in and out of aircraft for example........Good luck...

or you can try this techniq,
paint first your base color, the color you want to show up after the paint chip away, let say silver, on a clean palatte (or anything that smooth) place a drop of white glue, with a toothpick place small amount of glue on your model (door sides, walk ways, steps etc...) and remember where you placed them. after the glue dried up, paint you model then wait for it to dry. with a sharp blade, carefully flake the glue off the model.
this is the real chip paint.

No problem Frank, PM away :-)
A tip though, although I have no problem with anyone sending me a PM, doing so only gets my opinion. Posting a question on the forums not only gives you the oppertunity to get the best advice from all the great modellers on this site, but also allows others to see the answers and learn themselves. Don't forget that, unlike some sites out there, we don't mind answering the same questions several times a season :-) If you have a question, ask it. There is no rule that says that you ought to know the answer, the only daft question is the one that is not asked :-)

I love the idea of using salt to create chipping and plan to try it out soon. The idea, basiclly, is to paint your undercoat the apply salt to the areas you'd like to see chipping using a wet brush. Allow it all to dry then apply your top coat or camo pattern. Afterwards lightly rub the salt off with a soft cloth. The good thing here is that it doesn't really matter if some salt starts to come off at different stages of the painting process as this could simulate the real world look of paint chips of different ages.
It's on my to try list
