Hi John, welcome to Armorama
I'm not to sure if this is an appropriate post, here, but as I have an interest in you paint range I will risk getting my wrist slapped for replying and let the moderators make the decision
I use Xtracolor enamel paints, for many reasons, one of their greatest drawbacks is that they take an age to dry, but I have solved that and can have them dry almost as quickly as acrylics. So a few questions:
What is the drying time of your paints?
Are they matt or gloss?
Are they in tins or bottles?
How much paint per container?
What do they cost?
Would you like them reviewed?
I build WW II and live in the UK, would you like my address?
An impressive list.
Mal

Hi Mal,
> What is the drying time of your paints?
Varies according to climate conditions and thinners used, and method of application. For airbrushing, probably in the neighborhood of overnight for a second coat. Personally, I use lacquer (cellulose) thinner for any solvent-based paint I airbrush, with quick drying time. Some of our customers are reporting good results with Xtracolor fast-dry thinner; others with a 50:50 mix of white spirits and cellulose thinner.
> Are they matt or gloss?
Our aircraft paints are satin, while our armour and warship paints are matt.
> Are they in tins or bottles?
14ml tins, like Xtracolor and Humbrol.
> How much paint per container?
See above (that's about 1/2 oz for Colonials like myself).
> What do they cost?
£1.40/tin for UK/EU customers; £1.19 for everyone else.
> Would you like them reviewed?
You bet! Are you offering?
> I build WW II and live in the UK, would you like my address?
Yes please.

And still growing....

Mal,
Since the list is so informative, we will let John get away with the advert.
John,
Welcome to the site and I hope you can help us with our Warship section as well. Chris Decker and Mike Taylor are endeavoring to get our ship community jump-started.
Cheers,
Jim

Holdfast. Could you please explain you secret to getting the Xtra Colour paints to dry faster.
I prefer acrylics but Only Xtra Colour so far and the new WEM paints come in RLM 72 Grun. I am currently using this on a Do 17. I mixed 60%/40% paint with the Xtra Colour Fast Dry thinners. Its still taking over 24 hours to dry. While drying I get all that fluff on the beastly model even though I stash it in a cupboard.
Your secret would be most gratefully received. Or else a reccomended acrylic manufacturer who stocks ALL the RLM colours.

Well I really ought to keep this one to myself, it's probably worth a fortune :-) ..................................Just kidding. Enamel paints drying in 24 hrs is pretty good and is about the normal time. However using Xtracolor "quick drying" thinner seems an expensive way to go, when with a little knowledge you can achieve the aim at a much cheaper price. To get Xtracolor paints to dry in 24 hrs, without having to pay for their "quick drying" thinner use a 50/50 mix of white spirit and cellulose thinner. To get the paint to dry very quickly, mix the paint with straight white spirit and add a few drops of Rustins paint dryer I haven't been able to find this stuff, Merlin sent me some, after I put him on to this. Funnily enough I found out about this stuff in Hannants shop in London. They then brought out this "quick drying" thinner
Sorry I can't help you find the driers.

Thanks muchly mate. I will have a squizz on the webby for that stuff. As a regular visitor to the Hannants Colindale shop I have a large stock of the Xtra Colour range. It is very good but I LOATH the time it takes to dry. My flat seems to be a veritable trap for dust and it drives me round the bend when spraying.
My spraybooth seems to suck the dust onto the model, but if I trun it off SWMBO has kittens, hence my shift towards acrylics that do not seem to attract dust so much.
