A look at the new Classic Airframes kit was something of a surprise... I think it''s the first time I''ve found a kit where the resin parts fit much better than the main plastic components...

Hi Chuck

Yes... I thought the plastic parts looked pretty good on the sprues, but I had my suspicions about how well the fuselage joint would work in practice.

It was only when I put the tail halves together that I realised they were doing a fair impersonation of bananas.

If ever proof were needed that test fits are important for in-box reviews...

Darn it! The propeller!... I knew I'd missed something!

All the best

Rowan,
After a second look, I think that your build review; if you do one, should devote some space to how you over came the defects.

You know in 1/72 that might not be so bad but in 1/48 that is really bad.

I think it won't be long before we start seeing build reviews of that baby on all the major modeling websites.

I might buy one, even if it's not a Canuck aircraft!

Hi again Chuck

Yes, that's a good idea.

I doubt I'll manage to do a full build before the kit appears on other sites. I've got two campaign builds on the go and I expect Ollie's right... dedicated reviewers are probably already at work out there.

Apparently a few Sea Hawks did fly with the Australian and Canadian navies, although they didn't enter full squadron service, so there's an extra extra excuse for Ollie to get one!

All the best

RCN Seahwawk, eh?

I'll have to check that one. I have a book on the RCN and I never saw the shadow of one in it!

Hi Ollie

It would be good to learn more about this. All I've got is a quote from the old Profile Publication:

"... a few ex-Fleet Air Arm Sea Hawks were transferred to Australia and some flew from H.M.A.S. Sydney, while a small number also served with the Royal Canadian Navy; nevertheless the number was so small that the type did not enter full squadron service, and some were later returned to the United Kingdom."

All the best

Cheers Merlin.

I'll dig into that!
