As a Nam Modeller, I just begin to build some aircraft in the former South Vietnam Markings (VNAF) in 1/48 scale. The first aircraft released by the manufacturer including VNAF decal was Revell-Monogram with the Cessna A-37 Dragonfly (a hard to find in Europe, there is a re-release A-37 Dragonfly by Revell Germany without VNAF decal).
Then, fortunately, many other model manufacturers put in the modelling market their 1/48 scale kits with the VNAF markings :
- Academy F8F-1 Bearcat #2186
- Hobbycraft F8F-1 Vietnam Bearcat #1442
- Hobbycraft L-20/U-6 Beaver Vietnam #1675
- Italeri (ex ESCI) A-1H Skyraider #02628
- Classic Airframes F-5A USAF Freedom Fighter (SEA Scheme & Vietnam) #485
- Classic Airframes RF-5A Freedom Fighter Spain, Canada, South Vietnam #489
I request CRS and Tin_Can for a new aicraft group, cause of the Douglas Skyraider, a post WW2 propeller plane, I can not post it in Early Jets (after WW2) Group nor in Modern Group.
For documentation about the VNAF, there is a Leon Wohlert's website :

For the Nam Modellers, a new Brad C. Cossey's website :

Hi James,
There are many F-5A Freedoom Fighter in 1/48 : Italeri, Revell Germany... without VNAF decal. The only one who released this F-5 was Classic Aiframes with the decal in VNAF markings and including an accurate cockpit detail but not very cheap.

Hope this information may help you.

For your aicraft pictures took in Vietnam, I would like to see some (We must wait the new aircraft group in this forum, don't we?).
