I was thinking about my 2nd re-introduction to modeling and I thought it would be fitting that I do a P40 Curtis Warhawk as that was the first ever kit I made as a kid.
Can anyone give me some recommendations on 1/48 or even 1/32 scale kits?
Thanks,
Jim

While this certainly is not my genre, I can lead you to a place of interest: Mauve/Promodeler P40s

Hmmm. I just took a look over at GMs and discovered that out of 280 different kits for the P40 nearly 80% are discontinued and or out of production. Eeeek!

The mauve kit is certainly going to be expensive and hard to find...
All I know is that in 1/72nd you can easily find a nice Academy P40.
But Jim, why don't you try a navy plane, to get into the group build ?

AMT made a nice range of P-40s in 1/48, but there are now apparently OOP. Never fear though, as AMTech have re-released a couple. The P-40 has to be one of the best kitted non-German aircraft out there though!
So far there is:
1/48 P-40B/C offered by Hobbycraft
Curtiss P-40B
Curtiss P-40B/C Tomahawk
Hobbycraft 1/48 P-40B/C
1/48 P-40E offered by AMTech
Curtiss P-40E Warhawk
AMtech 1/48 P-40E Warhawk
AMtech 1/48 P-40E Warhawk
AMtech 1/48 P-40E Warhawk
1/48 P-40K by AMT
CURTISS P-40K "WARHAWK"
1/48 P-40L by AMT
AMT 1/48 P-40L Warhawk
1/48 P-40N offered by Mauve
Building Mauve’s P40N Kittyhawk IV
Curtiss P-40N Warhawk
Curtiss P-40N-20 Kittyhawk
P-40N
mauve 1/48 P-40N Warhawk
1/48 P-40N by Eduard (reboxing of Mauve)
Curtiss P-40N Warhawk
Curtiss P-40N
1/32 P-40E by Revell
Curtiss P-40E
For informations sake, Academy and Hasegawa offer examples in 1/72.
Pick one!

In 1/32 scale you have.....
1. The venerable Revell P-40E
2. Craftworks P-40B/C (full resin)
3. Scratchbuilders P-40B/Tomahawk conversion (resin nose to be used with Revell wings).
Accurate is coming out with a P-40 in 1/48 and if its anything like the TBF and SBD, it'll be a winner!

Dammit Jim, I'm a modeler, not a mode . . . oh, right.
You really need to get a copy of Kalmbach Books' "Building the P-40 Warhawk" (shameless plug -- check my review at www.geocities.com/modelcitizen62/anchorroundel.) -- it goes over most of the major known 1/72 and 1/48 P-40 kits.
The Hobbycraft/Academy 1/48 P-40B/C kits all have a major shape problem with the wing's angle of attack -- it makes the plane look like it got kicked in the throat. I still favor the Monogram P-40B, even with its relative lack of cockpit detail and its fiddliness of assembly.
"Building the P-40" addresses both quick and intensive fixes that make the Monogram Tomahawk look pretty sharp.
Good modeling!!!!
