I had used silly putty to mask 2 planes so far for a camo pattern. Worked well. So I used it on my Hasegawa Typhoon 1/48 that's to be a gift.

So I used the putty to mask the lower camo pattern. Painted, removed. Looks good. Now I covered up the first camo pattern so I could paint the 2nd colour (this would avoid the think layer of paint)... Painting went well.

Until I removed it.

Seems the silly putty EXPANDED about 1/8th of an inch from where it was originally placed! So when I removed it, I basically had a thin strip of silver (aluminum base coat) around all the camo patterns...

GRRRRRRR!

Now, it kind of looks cool, but not very authentic. :S So all that time masking wasted, and I'll have to redo it.

But I won't be using silly putty next time.

Instead of redoing the whole plane, try a drybrush technique. I've had a similar problem and needed to fix some cammo this way.
