Hi...
the baine of my modelling life are canopies.
I prefer injection if they are thin. Vacs are a devil in plastic potentially.
I wondered if any kit manufacturer has produced in the past a plastic canopy frame and a seperate injection canopy with recessed detail to allow it to be fitted under the frame nice and snug???
It would certainly help with painting...just do the frame and then shove it over the glass...keeping the glass nice and clear..
And if not why not...lol?
I know costs maybe involved but with all the after market stuff and what modellers spend in general maybe it would be worth it...
Cheers
Peter

Has any manufacturer thought of this?

I guess they desided it wasn't worth the trouble.
I had an old Monogram F-15 where the rear of the canopy and the frame were seperate but not so the windscreen and my son built a Blue Angels F-4 set of 4 that had two piece canopy and frame , but I don't remember the maker. That was 15 or so years ago. Oh, they were 1/72.
Just remembered I had a Corsair that had a two piece too in 1/32, broke it several times before I got it to fit.

That would certainly help a lot Peter. I have real problems when painting canopies.
I think one of the Japanese manufacturers [Hasegawa?] did include pre painted canopies with some of their kits, the one drawback I saw was that it could be dificult matching the colours when painting the rest of the kit.

Hi
maybe one of the after market producers could make a two part accessory???
Even a vac canopy if it could have the frame detail recessed???
Cheers

Hi there
I think the old Hasegawa 1/32 Fw 190 had a separate rear canopy and frame too.
The biggest problem for manufacters would be aircraft with complicated framing; I don't think it would be easy to mould something like a Hurricane's canopy frame and just imagine how delicate the frame would be on a smaller scale kit.
All the best
Rowan

Hi Rowan...
very true, but having seen some of the fine injection parts for certain Huma kits, I thought it may just be possible.
Ah well...back to the work bench...pass the Tamiya tape please....lol.
Cheers
