yes Dave, they did use it.
two noteable cases are the syrian raid on the Israeli mt. Hermon survilliance outpost on the first day of the war when 4 Hip choppers (one crashed into the side of the mountain) landed Syrian commandos and took the outpost (it was retaken later, of course).
another story happened also on the first day of the war when 12 egyptian Hips carrying 25 commandos each tried to take over Refidim, Israeli Phantoms and Neshers scrambled and after a failing to down them with missile and cannon fire (the slowness of the choppers worked to their best) they found out a great way to down the helos- get them inside the afterburner stream. needless to say the attack was fenced off and one mi-8 which crash landed was later reused by the IAF (not in an operational unit of course but rather for testing).
