Fonderie Miniature have produced a 1/48 scale kit of the Martin 167F Maryland. This is certainly not a kit for beginners, but experienced builders will welcome the chance to add a model of this often-overlooked aircraft to their collections.

Well I do hope thier Halifax is alot better than this. I might get this, if I ever run out of models to build

I have the Maryland, and it looks like a very fun build. Can't wait to start it in three years or so!!

Hi Mal
Yes, so do I. I'm glad to say I picked up the Maryland second-hand for less than half-price. Presumably the original buyer hadn't been prepared for just how "short run" in nature the kit would be.
It's not a model that invites you to build it... instead, it sits there and sneers at you... saying "Make something decent out of me if you can!"

Having seen the healthy stash of kits you posted for the Pig Pile build, that's not likely to happen is it?!

Hi Ollie,
LOL!! I'm tempted to start sooner than that, but whether I finish before you start is another matter...

Oh yeah!
I need to clean up my bench, so I'm busy finishing kits that have been clogging it for a long time...
Like the 1/48 Fin I'm currently painting!

It might actually be easier to scratch build one :-) no just kidding. You're right, it doesn't invite you to build it. If I could get one half price though, things might be different :-)

Hi Mal
I don't know about scratchbuilding... but it would be very interesting to do a back-to-back build with Koster's vacuform! Now, there's an idea if I can get hold of one...

How can you say it's not inviting to be built??
I find short runs extremely desirable, as they provide the most work time for the buck!

Hi Ollie
I quite agree - you only have to look at the list of reviews I've done to see that they're my main sort of modelling interest. Sad to say though, FM's Maryland isn't up to the current state of the art being set by the likes of Classic Airframes, Special Hobby and co.
Anyway, my Mega-build is on! I've just ordered Koster's vacuform, so I'll do a comparison review when it arrives (that'll make a change in itself, because we don't see many reviews for vacuforms ).
Then it'll be the "Battle of the Marylands"! I've never tackled a side-by-side build like this, so it'll be interesting to see how the two completely different approaches to the same subject compare.
This could be a long build, so I'll update regularly on my progress.
All the best

Excellent Rowan, I can't wait to see the results!
I'll be doing a "Battle of the Kiowas" soon, as I'll do the ESCI/Italeri OH-58 compared with the Heller CH-136!
That ought to be almost exciting! :-) :-)
