academys 1/35 cobra built out of box. I choose a paint job out of the squadron/signal publications AH-1W cobras in action book (center page). This is my first one and i just bought the cobra resin update kit along w/ two bobs whiskey in the mix decals. I also have two more kits that i plan to build w/ the new goodies. please, I could use any insight.

It is a very nice painted model how did you do the camo? Airbrush or brush? Also the subtle weathering is outstanding. Great job on this thing.

I'm sorry i lost it there for a moment. Thanks for getting the pics up for me. Anyway's i painted the cobra with Model Masters us army/marines sand. Then i used blue painters tape (torn) for the cammo pattern. Tamiyas olive green was applied by airbrush and dryed. Raw umber oils for the wash and drybrushed w/ lightend base coat of the us army/marines sand.

The decals are from the kit and some dry transfers.

First this is a wonderful job, it makes me want to build one.
Second what is those red tags made of, it makes it look interesting. Are you going to add any Mig Pigments to it , I think it would make it have more texture and feel more real.
Third was there any PE sets used because I can't really couldn't see any cockpit detail, and I think PE sets from edwaurd are great for adding that little extra touch.
Fourth are you going to put it in a dio, figures would be interesting.
I hope you show it in a show I think it would place very well' but thats my opion.
Happy Modeling
:-) Keep the good work going :-)

Hey guys, thanks. Tom your questions, those red tags are "Remove Before Flight" flags. They were made from plain ol computer paper colored w/ a red sharpie marker and the lettering was done by using Verlinden dry transfers. As for the cockpit, nothing used. This was straight out of box build. No diorama in the works for this one. I do have three other cobra kits, all 1/35 and Cobra Co. resin cockpit w/ Two Bob's "wiskey in the mix" decals and plan to build a SICK monster of a COBRA.

Hey Joe, I'd like to both commend you on a very good build, and also help you out with some accuracy issues.
First off, I love the weathering job -- really makes the panel lines and rivets pop out without being overdone. Especially like the dirty area around the fuel cap.
Secondly, I like the pnuematic arms you have keeping the canopies open. May I ask what you used? Metal rod?
OK, now here's the nitpicky accuracy issues that I want to point out for yours -- or anyone else's -- future builds that can only come from a technician who worked on the Whiskey for 4 years, lol.
In no particular order:
1. The ARC-182 radio antennas (top and bottom) should be painted black. They are never overpainted with the camo scheme.
2. That also goes for the FM homing antennas on top the engine nacelles. Black.
3. MRC's ALQ-144 is slightly too tall in shape. It should look a little more squat -- the ALQ in Cobra Company's resin kit is an outstanding example. Also, the ALQ doesn't mount to the kit very well. MRC has it stuck on there at an angle going slightly aft. In real life, it is mounted level to the deck.
4. You may not be a panel scriber -- and that's fine, because I'm no expert either -- but there are some rather prominent access panel lines on the intake (transmission) doors that MRC never bothered to mold. I think adding them will give some life to those intake pieces that just look too smooth.
5. The access door to the TOW electronics bay is sagging a little low. It should never go down farther than level with the deck. And it has cables supporting it from both sides, not one.
6. The Hellfire missiles are angled upwards too high -- they need to be a tad bit lower. Also, each Hellfire does not receive a RBF tag. The only RBF flag used is at the launcher's connection point to the wing pylon to secure the jettison device.
7. Hard to tell from the photos, but it looks like some of your interior is painted gray or blue-gray. The interior should be all black. Faded mixes to bring out contrast would be good -- I beleive Model Master has an Aircraft Interior Black color that is lighter than regular flat black.
8. The MARINES lettering on the right side of the tailboom is just a tad high -- should be closer to the middle like the left side.
9. Finally, and the only thing that actually needs to be fixed, is the fact that your TOW missiles and launchers are mounted in a backwards firing position, lol.
Otherwise, this bird looks great. It's all those finer points -- that only a technician can recognize -- that could make it truly outstanding. Once again, I may have gone on for awhile, but I'm not criticizing, just lending my knowledge to help!
Happy building.

Hello AH1Wsnake Thanks for the handful of reference tips, will use them in the future. As for the TOW missiles mounted in a backwards position
thats what you get for following the instruction sheet. That was pointed out some time back and has been corrected. Again thanks for the tips.

Hey first off I would like to say great paint and weathering. Outstanding job!
My only question is should the point on the Stars N Bars point up? or does the instructions for this paint schem show it down??
Steve
