G'day Folk's,
This Tamiya 48 scale bird, is part of the RAAF's Officer Training School contract, it is a replication of a 464 Sqn RAAF bird that was piloted by W.Cdr. Ian Airedale on the famous Amiens Prison raid.
The build is OOB with exception to the kit decal harness's, they were applied to a piece of foil and cut out, before glueing them in place, this gave the impression of a 3 dimensinal appearence.
The two whip antenia's are made from fine piano wire, the fuselage mounting was drilled to fit the wire before applying CA glue. The darker colour on the exhaust shrouds, is an attempt do replicate what these would look like when burnt by hot exhaust gasses.
The camo is from the Humbrol Authentic Colours for RAF aircraft, the clear gloss coat was Testors Gloss coat, the flat was Xtra Colours Flat Varnish, all paints were thinned with Laquer thinner at a ratio of 1 to 1
Rob.

Wonderful, After the Spitfire the Mosquito is probably my favourite aircraft, of WWII.
Tamiya's kit is excellant, I'm currently building one and including the Aires cockpit detail set, which is also very good.
Thanks for sharing

Hi Rob
That's a lovely clean build!
The idea of applying the decal harness to foil is very neat! Thanks for the tip - it sounds well worth a try.
All the best
