Hi...
Does anyone know the reasoning behind the RAF colour Photo Reccon Pink, used on Spitfires?
Why was that colour used?
Just thinking out loud...was it something to do with the visual effect of certain colours at high altitudes, for example ultra violets on the colour spectrum scale?

I ask because I’m toying with the idea of introducing light purple-ish shades ( mauve, grey-mauve, heather type colours) for some examples in the long range high altitude bomber part of the Luft 46 colours series.

I haven't looked into this yet but I think Rowan has. I think you are right about about altitude but the pink may have been for low altitude? I believe that there were PR Spits, late war? That had a purpleish colour on their undersides. There was an article in Scale Aircraft Modeller, I think.
It would look pretty cool, regardless of the reasoning

According to a book I have there the colour was developed by the PRU for Photographing targets from below a layer of cloud.
