Wayne, I'll see about getting some pics done of what I was suggesting, DIY, Armorama and modelling permitting :-) The same idea but using fine mesh might be a better way to go, nice one Scott
Yes Wayne Plasticard is the plastic card you can buy. 5Thou (5 Thousands of an inch) is about the thinest you can get.

Thanks for the idea on the mesh Scott. I'll look around my area and see if I can find a tobbacconist or see if I can find somwhere online to order some of them things.

Mal - I sure appreciate all your help on this
If I can find the proper paperwork I will put in a citation to award you a bronze sprue for your actions above and beyond the call of modeling duty :-) :-) :-)

I am looking forward, hopefully, to put some decals on later today. I tried using a mechanical pencil for the panel lines and I really like the outcome. On some of the lines the pencil slipped out a little bit. I just took my finger and smudged it aound and it just looks like a light dirty oily spot, cool. I now need to put on a coat of future for adding my decals. Then comes a flat laquer spray and some dirt and oil pastel stuff here and there. Another coat of laquer and hmmmmm.... It is getting really close, not counting my little sand filters

One last note: on my decal I added a little of my own designing. The 'Totenhand' marking is just a skeleton hand which looks really cool. I was lately thinking about the speed of the 262 as compared to other aircraft flying at the time. I came up with the idea of the Me262 flying at the speed of lightning as seen from the cockpit of other planes.
So I took the skeleton hand and added a yellow lightning bolt which I think came out pretty well.
I don't know if I am putting the word together correctly because I don't speak German, but now my Africa Korps Me262 is from the 'Blitztotenhand' (Lightning Hand of Death) fighter'bomber squadron based in North Africa.
Here is my decal: This will obviously be cut in half with one hand on one side and one on the other of the fuselage. I am not going to leave it square either. I am going to trim as best as I can around the shape of the hand and leave some black eding all the way around.

Good modeling all and thanks,
Wayne

Thanks Leon,
I had fun making the decal, even tho it was only one ....and since I finally found a printer to print them on.

I have all the decals on now, even my homemade one.
It came out pretty good. I don't know if I just didn't have it sealed quite enough or if I soaked it in the water a hair too long. Some of the black is missing in spots here and there on both decals. No problem tho,...I can just break out my trusty 1-hair paint brush and touch them up :-)

I do have a question on the homemade decals for all of you before I go any further. Is it safe to use decal setting solvent on the homemade decals? Or is it not a good idea? I wanted to ask before I tried it and possibly mess things up.

Once I touch up the decals, laquer spray, pastels, add last dangly bits and a last coat of laquer spray and antennae wire, I will have an almost completed project. I am not going to call it complete until I make the sand filters. Since it is an Afrika Korps jet, that would definitely be part of the aircraft.

Good modeling all,
Wayne

Hummm....that was the 2nd posting I've done that came out all wacky.

I'm going to build a Ta-183 in a Jasta 78b scheme from WWI...

I had some other ideas but I think I'm gonna stick with that one...
