Hello all,

A couple of weeks back I posted some in-progress shots of my P-51D. Well, I actually finished it about a week ago, but then had to go out of town.

That being said, she finally makes her debut! The kit is a 1/48 Tamiya P-51D, done up with Aeromaster's "Blue Nose Bastards of Bodney" decals for "Petie 3rd". I've also added True Details wheels.

It was painted with Tamiya's Gloss Aluminum and Blue spray cans and various Tamiya, Model Master, & Polyscale acrylic paints. I've eschewed the "clean" build for the look of a plane that's seen some recent action.

As always, feedback is welcome!

Very nicely done Frank.

You have a great finish, I'm not sure I could do that with an air brush, let alone rattle cans. Great work!
Thanks for posting.

Looks great Frank! How did you get the blue nose so shiny?

Very nice build.

Thanks guys! Your comments are very much appreciated!

As for the blue paint, the Tamiya blue from the rattle can is fairly glossy on its own. Prior to decaling, I did put down 2-3 light hand-brushed coats of Future. I put another 1-2 to seal in the decals, then weathered and coated in Future again. It was REALLY shiny at that point, too much so (but cool looking IMO).

The finish was then dulled down slightly with a hand-brushed coat of Model Master Semi Gloss coat. It may be still a bit too glossy, but I like it!

Hi Bender! Thanks for the compliments. I consider it very high praise given your awesome "Petie 3rd" build posted today!

The photos were taken with a Canon Digital Rebel, stock lens. I'm still learning my way around it, especially for taking photos of my model builds.

Frank,

Your bird looks fantastic! Really nice job you've done there. Makes me want to break mine out and start building her, but it must wait until another time....
