This pic comes from a very good guy in Oz by the name of Keith Webb - I also have a great video/sound recording he made of the aircraft flying low and coming toward the photographer --fantastic effect, especially when played loud through headphone!
Spitfire - the most beautiful man-made object ever, and the sound the Merlin & Griffon make at an airshow just sets the hairs on the back of the neck on end!

Happy Anniversary to the most amazing plane ever!
I'm afraid that, once again, I was unable to celebrate the Spitfire in time. I have, though, started to build a Spitfire in 1/72 (the S31 - Spitfire XIX of the Swedish Airforce - in beautiful PRU Blue). It's my first spit, my first pre-shading attempt etc.

A very happy birthday to a wonderful machine (and Mrs Mayfield)!
Have any of ou read 'First Light' by Geoffrey Wellum? It a TRUE first-hand account of how he (Wellum) went from leaving school to training and then into the Battle of Britain. He then went to malta with the Pedestal convoy. It is a very good book, and yes, it is about spitfires! HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!
cheers
Philip

So is "Sigh for a Merlin" - the story of Alex Henshaw, who took over from Mutt Summers as chief test pilot of the spit, including the introduction of the Griffon etc.

Here goes two great art prints of the spitfire in the Battle of Britain.
Definitely the Spitfire is the most beautifull WW2 aircraft.
