I have agreed to take this on as Rowan has a lot on his plate in editor mode. This is a great idea but I think we need to sort out how we do this, the original idea seems not to be working. Due in part to some not having seen the original thread. Although not intended as a competition it does appear that this is how it might end up. I don't think it matters how it pans out as the idea is to get more pictures of aircraft models in the forum. Here is a link to the Figure sections Model of the Month MOM: Figure MOM Have a look and see what you think. I think if we go for models finished in the month ther will be very few entries for most months. I'm angling towards simply entering a model, whether it was finished in the month or 20 years ago. The voting by members and the winner into a gallery. We have to keep it fairly simple, it would be like entering a model into a competition that only has one catagory: model aircraft. So what do you think.

Sounds good to me. I like the open entry method. Maybe you can enter 1 a month, ,built whenever. Then the question is, can you re-enter it later if you were not a winner??

Nice one Mal
I was going to post a thread tonight to the effect that your "prize" for winning the first Aircraft Model of the Month poll, was to have to run them in future!
If we follow the Figures example, entries will only be elligible once - the month they're finished. We need to iron out things like this, so please add your thoughts on the matter.
Now that one's easy - you get a FREE FLIGHT in one of Mal's Spitfires.... of course you have to be 1/48 scale to fit!
Seriously, the winning build is guaranteed a front-page spread with an On-Display-style Feature, plus Mal and I are discussing ways to give monthly awards.
All the best
Rowan

I absolutely agree with this. It seems to me that if we restricted it to what was finished in the month, there would be very few eligible. I think that if the goal is to get some good galleries going, we should open it up and let people enter from their entire collection.
So my thoughts, which are just my thoughts, are maybe people can enter one a month from whenever. If they don't make it with one that they really think is worthy, they can enter it again a few months later. (the only reason I am stuck on this idea is because I think it would be a shame to have two amazing models entered one month - have one win and have one just go away forever...)
I do hope this goes, as I think it will add more fun to the aircraft focus.

I agree Leon if it's open we will get more entries. Talking to Rowan I think a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place is the way to go. I think the difficulty might be the voting. I don't think the poll system will allow this? It could be done by email but, if they are sent to me, it may seem a bit suspicious if I were to win. There could be an open vote in the forum but that might be a bit cumbersom? The email vote would work if I were not to enter but I'm quite looking forward to this myself. However I will bow out if necessary.

Mabye the person who the votes get sent to changes each month. That person could opt out for that month so it is fair.

We definately need to keep thinking beyond you bowing out. It would be a shame to not have you included.
How come the poll thing doesn't work? We know who got how many votes during the first month don't we?
I do like the 1st, 2nd, 3rd idea. That would get more posted in the "winner's circle" gallery.

Just tabulate the "Poll votes" and post the results as 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I see no particular advantage to the email vote method and we do need someone to enter every month and coordinate the posting and voting, THAT's YOU Mal.

A good idea Philip but just a bit to cumbersome to work well, thanks anyway.
Leon, the poll works but it won't allow you to cast 3 votes, 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
The answer is as Chuck says, Tabulate the votes and award the positions. I was thinking about getting more votes in the system (ie casting 3 votes each) but it is likely that as this becomes more popular more votes will be cast anyway, so that's that sorted
Unless there are any major objectons we will go with the enter a model, regardless of when it was finished with a couple of re-entries allowed. We could also have a theme running aswell?
I think we should also consider a all forum wide competition? Problem with that is armour is bound to win
