Hello mates!
I thought I would offer a invitation to join in on the now forming aircraft carrier campaign, called Flattops. This would give the aircraft modelers the chance to build the wet half of there naval aircraft landing strip! You have to admit, a aircraft carrier displayed with aircraft models would look pretty sharp! Not to mention all the fun you will have during the campaign. The campaign is realy simple , you can build any scale , nation or era that you want. Even a flight deck section with a naval airplane as a diorama would be fine!
This is a invitation as I said, I would be glad to have you mates onboard!

Cheers,

Garry

Garry, thanks for the invite. At first I was going to decline, I haven't had much luck finishing campaigns. However I do have the urge to build a base with a carrier deck to display my naval aircraft. I will join but you will have to remind me that I'm in

Hi Garry

Oohhh... finishing in July 2006...

I've kind of promised myself I won't join any more campaigns because I've been so cr*p at finishing them (or building ANYTHING lately for that matter!...).

But, with a deadline like that... Call my arm firmly twisted! I'm in!

So... will an aircraft on it's own suffice or should it be a vignette on a section of deck?

All the best

I'm in, I'm in

Really Garry, you, Rui and Darryl really get me into this warship building....already thinking what will come after the submarine, battleship and aircraftcarrier.....destroyers? :-)

Nah let's just first complete these ones, thinking too far ahead now :-)

Cheers and thanks, you guys openend a new world for me! Those of the warships!

Maybe this aircraftcarrier thing drags me into aircraft too again (I started modelling with aircraft, the jump to armor was 2 years after I started)

Merlin, I'm not the campaign leader but I'd say you can build a plane but I should have something to stand on....so a vignette with a deck would do fine, just an aircraft not....this is because it's a warship campaign....just my opinion :-)

Hope to see you join, this will become a great campaign with huge builds if many people join!

Mal and Rowan, welcome aboard the campaign mates! Since it is a aircraft carrier build , yes the aircraft would have to be on a flight deck or hanger vignet.
And dont worry Mal, I will remind you!

Cheers,

Garry

I did'nt spot the finish date, July 2006 I might just have a go at building the dio I have been planning for years. No that would be something if I can do that. It will be an A-7E on a carrier deck (showing movement) with various deck crew and a deck mule? It's been so long since I started planning this I have forgotten most of what I learnt about carriers, to enable me to build it. It's probably to ambitious so I will start off with a WWII deck section with some carrier based plane, either FAA or US Navy.
Can I build a deck and add a previously built model?

Wow! Mal, if you thought you'd be finished by THIS July... well, it proves just how slow a builder I am!

All the best

I'm sure many of you will have already read the terrible news of Garry's death and share my deep sadness at his passing. It hardly seems possible that he was posting here just a few days ago.

There are plans to continue running the Flat-tops Campaign in honour of Garry. I would urge as many of you as possible to submit aircraft entries as our own small tribute to a great modeller who contributed so much to making Armorama the home we all love.

Thank you

Rowan

i saw this thread when garry first posted it, and was going to ask if building an actual aircraft carrier is o.k. i have had the airfix ark royal kit in my stash for about two years and was planning to make some of the planes look as if they are flying off the deck and landing. add to that i also have a tamiya 1/72 corsair i have been looking for an excuse to build, which could easily become part of a deck diorama, that would be breaking new ground for me. if i can ill get both these projects done, considering it dosn't finish till next year and this campaign will maybe be dedicated to garry, it would be nice to remember him this way
