What would be the best way to break A/C topics down into various groups?

By scale?
Large Scale ( to 1/24)
1/32
1/48
1/72
1/144
etc...

By type?
Props
Jets
Fighters
Bombers
FB's
etc...

By era?
Pre-WWII
WWII
Early Jets
Modern Jets
etc....

By Nationality?
US Navy
USAF
US Marines
Israeli
Soviet
etc....

Or some mixture of these? I guess the question is what are the typical "groups" that seem to be out there now? I know for instance that some users are crazy about the BF109, so maybe a BF109 group? Or maybe just a "Messerschmitt" group?

Whatcha think??

By the way...for all of you A/C visitors that haven't yet signed-up or posted, I hope this starts to convince you of the potential of this board. After scouring the Internet for the past 9 months or more I can say without a doubt that once this group-based topic system is fully enabled, Armorama.com will have the BEST forum system out there, bar none. No annoying pop-ups too!

Cheers,
Jim

I would say either by the aircraft type or era groupings as you posted. I'm getting into AC modeling more, and I find that I don't have a specific preferance, nor is there anything I specifically don't like.
Groupings by scale I think would be too general.
Grouping by nationality, also, I think is too general. (I'm thinking a large imbalance in # of topics in a group.)
So, my 2 cents says: by aircarft type ...
Spoken, Yoda has.

Try not to laugh... :-) :-) :-)

IMO by era would work best. Also it's uniform to the gallery.

I agree. I think going by era makes the most sense.

I'd go with Early Aviation (Kitty Hawk flyer to Pre-WW2), Then WW2-Korea (some of the same planes flew) and finally Modern Aviation (basically Vietnam and beyond). Get too stove-piped in the forums and the focus will be too narrow.

Rob,
A narrow focus shouldn't really be an issue. Let's say for instance there is a BF109 group. The user would be able to keep "checked" the "WWII Era Prop" group (if it's there), and the "BF109" group, and both sets of topics would come up in the topic list. However if the BF109 fan didn't want to see anything BUT 109 topics he could uncheck all others and just see that specific group. If you'd like a preview of this here is a link. Please note that the actual "refresh" and "save" functions aren't working yet.

Hi,

I'd say a combo would be preferable. Like, first divide it up by era, and under that, have a break up of Prop and Jets. Like
1. The Golden Age : Props
2. WW I : Props
3. WW II : Props and Jets
4. Post WW II : Props and Jets.

However, I dunno how you'd go about putting up Choppers :-). Most of them have come up during or after WW II, so that shouldn't be a problemo...

My 2 rupees...

BP.
