Few people realize this, but French Air Force planes before the Armistice were as wild in their paint schemes as late war Luftwaffe bird.

For an even wilder scheme, check this P-36 image at teh Air Force Museum site. It was used in a series of wargames in the late 30's but never saw operational action.

Don't recall where but I recently read that FAF had no set pattern for their camo. Standard paints, but not patterns. :-)

Personnaly i think the camo is a done with german paints and standards. I know many D-520's were captured by the german Luftwaffe and the Regia Aeronautica (after vichy-France had capitulated). Many of these captured fighters were retaken by the Free French in 1944. I've seen some nice schemes for the D-520
