Hey all!
This is my first post on this forum, and I'd like to shar my latest aircraft build with you!
It's a 1/48 Tamiya Nakajima Gekko Type 11 "Irving".
As always with Tamiya, an excellent model, near perfect fit and great detail.
All comments welcome (even the bad ones )
Cheers

Hi Quintin, welcome to Armorama
A very nice Gekko, I must build more Japanese planes.
What paints do you use? What did you for the paint chipping? I like the way you have weathered the markings. Models always look odd (IMHO) if the markings aren't weathered when the rest of the paintwork is.
Nicely done, You just have time to enter this in the Model of the Month MOM. If you would rather not, suss it out and maybe next month

EDIT: I've bumped the MOM for April thread back into view, take a look.

Hi Mal!
Thanks for the kind words! For this model I mainly used Tamiya enamels. The paint chipping was done by hand, using a fine brush and Tamiya Chrome Silver paint.
I'll think about the MOM, thanks for the suggestion. I'll try to take some decent pics over the weekend and post them next week!
Cheers

Quintin,
Let me echo the welcomes and comments.
Nice lookin' bird! I like what you have done with the upper insignia. Where'd it go?! I take it they had cloth control surfaces; hence the lack of paint chips on the ailerons?
Hard to find anything to nit-pick. Japanese planes did have wire antennas, yes? Maybe you could run a cable wherever one went on this plane? Perhaps a little more wear-n-tear on the tires? Just small ideas. She's a beaut the way she is now.
Keep up the good work and what else do you have for us?

Unfortunately this months MOM will close at midnight tonight. Do not dispair, you can enter next months. It will start on the 1st May, just keep an eye out for me starting the thread.

Hi Keith
Thanks for the compliments. Yip, the scontrol surfaces were indeed coveed with cloth. I'm not enitrely sure about the wire antenna, although I think you're right. I've never attempted rigging on a model before, but I'll try soon enough.
I'm working on a 1/48 MD500 Defender that I'm converting to an MH-6J Little Bird. The conversion is scratch-built, seeing that there are no conversion kits in 1/48 scale. It's almost done, I'll post some pics soon.
Cheers
