I would like to build a F-4U Corsair in 1:48 scale.
I need your opinion in order to choose an excellent kit among those of Tamiya, Hasegawa, Academy, Monogram, etc...
Thank you.

I heard Tamiya's is a very accurate kit.
I'll go for Tamiya if i ever build this aircraft

Avoid the Monogram kit as it's very old and not much of an interest.
Go for the Academy and Hobbycraft kits, since they provide the most bang for the buck. They'll be a little bit more difficult to build than the Tamiya or Hasegawa, but the results will be worth it!

Hi Francois,
No contest, Tamiya all the way. I have build the Arii/Otaki/Matchbox/Airfix kit and it is OK, particularly if you like scratch building, as the cockpit and wheel bays need sorting. I left the whell bays and added an Airwaves PE cockpit, I had to cut open the canopy as well. I also have the Hobbycraft offering but it will never get built since the arrival of the Tamiya kit. I have built the F4U-1 Birdcage version and you will not require any aftermarket goodies for this kit as the cockpit is stunning. This kit is well worth what you will pay for it over the others.

Tamiya has wing fold options along with dropped flaps. The version with the tug also has the 5" underwing rockets. Birdcage version can be built as a nightfighter too.

Jim,
Which Hase Corsair do you have? I have their old -4 and their 5N. The -4 is decent for an older kit with good fit and raised panel lines. However, it doesn't have any underwing stores or rocket rails. The -5N is really nice and fits together pretty well.

Many thanks for your opinions, mates!
I have to do my choice between Tamiya and Hasegawa, cause of a very rich offer of the aftermarket stuff: cockpit detail, PE parts, etc...
