Hi,
Please, I would like to know which gray I have to paint a Revell 1/48, A-7E Corsair II, VA-46, "Clansmen", of USS John F. Kennedy.
The instruction sheet only mentions "Matt gray".
But which gray?

i use a color call GULL gray or LIGHT gray should do. That is main color we used on our A7E when i was in VA-86 then we became VFA-86. It also depends on which paint shceme you are using .
1. Gray/White
2. two Shade gray (low vis)

VA-46.... my favorite squadron..... and we actually did 2 cruises with them when I was on the Kennedy. Back in those days it was the old hi-viz -colorful markings, gray over white.
I wish I had my old photos, or crusie books, but unfortunately they were wiped out in a flood.

Hi Gaucho,
Here are some good sources from IPMS USA. First is Don Color's site, look for CAMOUFLAGE, AIRCRAFT, TYPE....
Don Color
Then try IPMS: Resource URLs , scroll down to "Camouflage Scheme & Color Reference" Now, his link "http://www.jpsmodell.de/dc/emain.htm" gives you a 404 NOT FOUND page, but just edit the URL to "http://www.jpsmodell.de"
Note also DON COLOR has a colors cross index.

Here are two gray schemes that I have in referances that I could find off hand.
This one as you can see is from 1977:
This one is is what they called the TPS scheme:

The FS numbers mentioned are for Model Master paints. there is a cross referance guide here:
http://www.jpsmodell.de/dc/querfs_e.htm
If you don't have Model Master paints where you are.
Hope this helps you out..
Paul

Great guys, you helped me a lot.
I'll try to do the one color scheme, used in 1991, in the operation Desert Storm (at least as showed in the instructon sheet).
hmmm.. then, I think I'll use Flat Medium Gray (FS36237) a little lighter than Dark Gull Gray (FS36231).
If you have another suggestion, please, feel free to say, I'll paint it next weekend.
Thank you,
Ramao

Hello, all. This helps me out, tremendously for BOTH my projects... building a high-end A-7 Corsair model kit and refurbishing an A-7 cockpit with real parts.
