Hi all,

I mostly hang out on the figure forum but thought some of you may be interested in this.

This was made by my grandfather in 1943 while working for Rolls Royce aero engine factory in Bristol.

It was made by hand out of a solid block of brass.
No machiery involved.

It's a bit larger than 1:72 I reckon.
My photos don't do it justice and it could do with a good polish.
Some of the marks were caused by me trying to make it fly when I was five. (I'm now 46)

Wow, Vic!

That's something different allready!

One piece, no machinery, real craftmanship!
I'm always a bit jealous about people who can work metal like sculpting clay! And, this one is Rolls Royce powered also ??

Beautifull piece of model aviation history, take good care of it!!!

Hi Vic

That is something to really treasure!

I'm the worst culprit for trying to "help" my older brother with his real flying models - he was 20 or so; I was 4! You can imagine how popular I was...

All the best

Thanks for your comments guys,
I'll always treasure it and pass it on eventually to one of my boys.
The Spit has always been my favourate plane.
Rolls royce/British aerospace which is about a mile from me has one that still flys. They fly it sometimes locally and also at airshows.
You always know when she's up because you hear that unmistakable engine.

Take it steady

Hi Mal,

Thanks for your comment,
I've made a couple of spitfires in the past but nothing like the guys on here make. I haven't got the patients for it, or the skill I suspect :-)

Thanks for sharing Vic.
My opinion ; keep it like it is, scuffs and all. Thats history man, real history. Your Grandfather was a true metalsmith.
