Hello folks,

I was wondering if any one could tell me if the UH-1C gun ship was ever used for LZ DROPS of troops.

Thanks, PFC :-)

It probably was not used to drop off troops primarily. It would be real hard to discharge troops over all the ordnance hanging out the side doors. Additionally, the gunships were is short supply and "slicks" were plentiful. That being said, if there were troops down below that really needed to be picked up, the gunship pilot would probably get down there and evacuate the soldiers.

BTW, remember "i before e except after c" when spelling "Vietnam."

I remember hearing this from an old Charlie Brown cartoon. It has helped me lot!

The only thing that gunships were used for in LZ's was for air-support.Gunships could clear out areas to make LZ's or just make the VC duck in their foxholes. But if it was a real emergancy and no other slicks were around then they would try and pick up some GI's.
