I am building a 109B, and I still don't have any color reference for the cockpit. I have always assumed RLM 02, and if I don't find out otherwise in the next couple of days, that's how I am going to paint mine. (Of course with my luck, the instant I get it painted and detailed, I will find out that it was actually painted Day Glo pink, with kelly green instrument faces!)

The only cockpit photo I have is from an Emil. I am going to assume they were fairly close, unless I learn otherwise. Too bad I can't leave that till last. The only other part I am really unsure of is the interior of the landing gear doors, and wheel wells. Clueless on that one.

Dave, yeah, the B version was also RLM 02. G models and later were RLM 66. The only one I'm not sure about is the F model, but I suspect it was RLM 66 also. Wheel wells and such things as that generally remained RLM 02 on all versions.

:-) As I received the Revell boxing of Hasegawa's Bf 109E-4/7 Trop, from my daughter for Christmas, I must build it (so she is more likely to buy me more models). So I will enter the group build with it. This might mean that my Ju 87 gets left behind, but I will attempt to build both. I will do the 109 in the kit markings of Hans-Jochim Marseille.

:-) As posted on another thread I am actually now doing 3 Bf 109s. All Hasegawa:
a) Bf 109 E-7 Trop of Hans-Joachim Marseille. (Obviously in a desert scheme).
b) Bf 109 E-4 Adolf Galland. ( In RLM 74, 75, 76)
c) Bf 109 E-3 Unknown pilot, at the moment. ( In RLM 02, 70, 65).
So far:
RLM 02 sprayed in all cockpits, wheel wells, slats and other relevant bits. Spinners, back plates, where applicable and props sprayed RLM 70. Instrument panels, radiator matracies and wheel hubs sprayed black. All parts coated in Klear prior to receiving a wash tomorrow. Apart from the wheel hubs and instrument panels. The wheel hubs will be dry brushed, dark grey and a touch of silver, then will have a coat of Klear and the tyres painted dark grey.
I haven't yet masked the canopies. This will be done after the fuselage halves are together, so that I can spray the decking at the same time as the canopy interior frame colour RLM 02.

Well, I am working on a 109...but I switched to the Revell/Germany Me109G-10 in 72nd scale. Quite a nice little kit. Accurately represents a late G-10 with the lowered tail wheel. Nice scribing, no fit problems and looks like a G. OOB build, finished the cockpit and major subassemblies. Will post pics soon.

:-) Now that I have a digital camera there will be no stopping me. Here are the first pics of the 3 Amigos. Spot the difference in the moldings. The tan coloured one is the Revell boxing.




Wings will be together tonight and by monday I hope to have the canopies masked, and painted RLM02 as well as painting the cockpit decking. As I have only 1 1/2 sets of seat belts on one seat I will paint the molded on detail, one seat will be half and half and one seat will be compleat PE.

:-) As the lighting in my "photographic studio" is down, it's been dull and overcast for days, I can't get any more pics, for the time being. So here is a verbal update.
I've changed my mind about the seat belts and because the cockpits on the 3 amigos are going to be closed, I've simply painted the moulded ones. The cockpits are together and installed, the wings are together and attached. I have painted the decking but I haven't masked the cockpits yet so they aren't. Today I hope to re-scribe lost panel lines on the fuselages and commence the masking of the canopies.

Are you doing the same markings, or is yours at a different time during the battle for Britain.
If it's the same I would be very interested in how you do the fuselage mottling.
I built this model a long time ago but I still like this scheme. :-)

1 : airbrush, but that's going to be extremely hard...
2 : with a sponge or tissue, but I need to try this one first...

Another difficulty : I'm working in 1:72nd scale !

I used a small brush that I cut down, like a small version of a stencil brush, dipped it in the paint, dabbed most of it off then stippled it on to the fuselage. It was quite easy, in 1/48 and should be fairly easy in 1/72. Just use a small brush, something like a 000 or 0000. Have fun :-)

I used a small brush, 000/0000, cut it down (like a stencil brush) dipped it in the paint, dabbed off most of the paint on a tissue, then stippled it onto the model. Should work in 1/72, maybe you would need an even smaller brush? :-)
