after reading the answers to my last post about this, i was able to get the look i was after, so a big thanks to you guys, it seemed i was using the paint too thick, even though it comes thinned down for airbrushing (its xtracolour from hannants, nice paint to use, with a glossy finish for decaling) this is how it looks now
you may not be able to see this pic, if so ill put it in my gallery and get it in from there

Hi Phil!
I can see both the pictures!
This mottling certainly was a tough job! But it came out well!
I noticed there are many planes with the same painting in the background! Do you plan to make a whole airforce with this scheme! :-)
The Free French did use this kind of camouflage on their Junkers Ju 88 and Dewoitine D520! So if you want another project like this one...
I really want to see this one finished!
Jean-Luc
P.S. the plane is 1/72 isn't it? Do someone know of a 1/48 version of the Arado Ar 240?

Turned out very well Phil, nice job.
A word of warning, in case you are not aware, Xtracolor can take as long as a week (yes week) to cure properly. This time can be cut down to 1-2 days if you use 50-50 white spirit/Cellulose thinner, or to 1-2 hours if you add a few drops of Rustin paint drier.

its a 1/72 jean luc, as for the stuff in the background, they are a spare fusalage and a half built p-40 that became my practice pieces. mal, ive noticed that these paints do take at least 24 hours to dry (even in this weather!) which was a surprise after the half hour/ hour drying time of humbrol, but when i seem to always have 2-3 kits on the go now its easy enough to put somthing aside for a day or two

Nice save, Phil ! Looks much better !
Painting mottles like that can become maddening after a while. They look random enough to not be a connect-the-dots scheme.
Well done !

the way i found that worked best to get that random look was to put 5 spots on in roughly the same formation as on a dicethen put other dots in between ,but out of line diagonally, then just fill in the spaces left. cant wait to finish this one now the hardest part is done
cheers, phil
