Fellow modelers, I'm in need of some help on this one. I am trying to find a way to make a PB4Y-2 Privateer for my grandfather. He was a gunner on one in the Korean War. I have seen that Matchbox made a kit a while ago, and there are conversion kits for B-24 models. Does anyone have any info for me that can point me in the right direction to obtain what I need to build this plane? Anything would be greatly appriciated.
Thanks you,
Jason

Hi Jason
Well in 1/48 scale - Koster do a vacuform / resin conversion for the Monogram/Revell B-24. I got one earlier this year and it's a massive kit! I'll be tackling it at some stage, when time and space permit!
As regard the Matchbox kit, the Detail & Scale rundown of available kits doesnt have a lot to say in its favour...

Where might I be able to find the Koster conversion, and what should I expect for a rough price estimate?

Hi Jason
Of course - just when I need it - I can't find the Koster price-list! As far as I know, Kosters have never advertised on the internet but - and here's an Armorama "exclusive" - contact Bill Koster on: [email protected] for more details (and please mention Armorama )

Hi Jason
Well, I'm still gathering refs, but I'd definitely recommend looking at Detail & Scale Vol. 64 and http://www.navylib.com/

Hiya, Jason,
I'm pretty sure that the Cobra Company still makes their 1/444th resin kit, which is $45.00 (I hope they do as I want to buy it at some point soon!) The link is: http://www.cobracompany.com/
I have the old Matchbox kit, which is pricey and brittle (yes, brittle styrene, which snapped in the box, arg!)
Agreed, that Detail in Scale has got some great info and pix!
Good luck!
Aloha,
Johnny B

Hi there
Off the top of my head (apologies Bill!), I think you're talking more like $50 for the Koster conversion.

Hi Jason,
The Matchbox Privateer is available from www.kingkit.co.uk at £24.99 + £11.00 shipping to the USA which works out at around $65 at the current exchange rate. Check out E-bay too as they sometimes appear on there as well.
