I may have found the fastest fighter jet or might be fighter bomber?
its the mig-31 foxhound, with top speeds of 2,154 mph (Mach 2.83).
Lets see if anyone can top that, and it has to be a fighter/fighter bomber, not some high flying space plane :-)
Anyway have fun searching.
cheers

I believe you are correct about the MiG 31 but I think the NATO name for this was Foxbat.

I'd guess it was the interceptor version of the SR-71 Blackbird, A-12 or something like that. It was a Mach 3+ aircraft.

The Mig-31 Foxhound is a substantially improved derivative of the Mig-25 Foxbat.

P.S. for your question, the "Magician" sure has the answer!

The SR-71 was tried out as a high-altitude bomber interceptor in the 1960's, and was fairly successful in testing hitting targets as far as 70 miles. It was successful hitting the target in 12 or 13 missiles fired!!!
Would this count as a fighter??????????????
