Does anyone have any thoughts or insight on this kit? I picked it up tonight for the bargain price of $12.65. Is it close to accurate? Any AM kits for it?

IIRC, the kit came out in the mid to late 80s. I first saw it while stationed at Ft. Knox. The kit is the upscaled 1/48 scale one with the addition of wingtip Sidewinders. Neither kit is known for its high level of detail. If you really want a detailed large scale Apache, go for the Kangam kit, if you just want a big Apache, go for the Revell kit.
I am unaware of any current AM parts, did you try Cobra?

Tjhe Revell kit is very plain. The General is right, Kangam or the IMEX kits are beautiful and full of detail. IMEX even offers a Longbow.

Thanks guys.
Considering the price of $12.65 vs. about $30+ and that I'm not too into aircraft, she'll do.
So long as it's not a waste of time and effort...

Yes, it is an old Hawk kit older than most of us save DJ, Ron and others in their 40s. Think of it as a chance to improve your putty ad sanding skills. Or better yet, build it like a kid in 1960 would by using tube glue and hand painting only. See what us old folks had to do to build kits as a kid.

I built the 1/32 Revell Apache about five years back for an airport display, and the cockpit is actually pretty fair. It does represent an early-production or service test AH-64A, though.
There's a lot that can be added to the basic kit to bring it up to standards, though:
* cable cutters on gear legs, canopy, sensor turret and cannon
*fender frame around cannon
* FM antenna on vertical fin
* "disco light" IR jammer on the upper fuselage
* engine bay access door bumper posts on the engine nacelles
* IR/chaff dispenser mount and box on the rear port boom
I was able to do most of the work from plastic sheet, stretched sprue and a couple of straight pins for the bumpers. I don't recommend trying to make a chaff-flare box from scratch though, LOL
I had a few photos of a South Carolina NG Apache I took back in 1998. If you want some scans, pm me
