How would I highlight the panel lines on an A-1 Skyraider?

I ask because the previous posting on panel lines left a few questions.

On the A-1 Skyraider it has a three color (Dark green, medium green, and dark tan) pattern on top and Dark Gray underneath.

What color should I use to accentuate the panel lines?

As I understand, you would like to paint your Skyraider in 4 tone SEA camo scheme that was used in Vietnam.

The 4 tone SEA camouflage: Dark green FS-34102, Medium green FS-34079, Tan FS-30219 and Grey FS-36622. I use Testors - Model Master Camouflage grey #1733, Dark green #1710, Medium green #1713 and Dark tan #1742.

For the panel line, I use the paint mixing with thinner: Red Brown + Black Matt (Red Brown as Vietnam Earth and Black Matt as the airplane smoke).

Hope that helps.

Hi AJ

That's probably because there are as many opinions on weathering model aircraft as there are model aircraft to weather!

You could do far worse than read these articles by DWAungst and Holdfast.

All the best

AJ, if you're looking for one color to highlight all panel lines on the SEA camo plane, probably your best bet would be a red-brown shade from your favorite manufacturer.

Personally, I use artist oils for highlights, and for SEA planes, I use Burnt Sienna mixed 50/50 with Raw Umber.

Fairly subtle, but "in theater" so to speak.

Good luck.
