Will the old Revell ME-109G kit work for a 109 from JG 300 Wilde Sau. The plan is to make it into an early night fighter.

Thanks!

Hi Chip

Which Revell kit is it? What scale? If you're going to model one of the aircraft on the EagleCals sheets, you need a Bf 109G-6.

The really old 1/32 scale Revell kit is pretty inaccurate, but they've been re-boxing the lovely Hasegawa kits in Europe... In 1/48 scale the 1970s Revell kit is a G-10/14 hybrid, so it'd need an enormous amount of work to take it back to a G-6. 1/72?... I don't know.

I'm actually working on a JG300 double-build in 1/48 scale, using the Hasegawa Bf 109G-6 and an old TriMaster Fw 190A-8 (to "back-date" to an A-7).

Hope this helps

Sorry, I was a little vague there. The 48 scale 109G from Revell.

Hi Chip

It's a different box from what I've seen this side of the pond, but I reckon that's the 1970s G-10/-14. A great value kit, but it'll be a very big job to back-date to a G-6 - new tail, new cowling, new canopy, different wing-bulges...

There may have been JG300 G-10/-14s, but they're not covered by the EagleCals sheets...

All the best

So is that the good thing about history, no one can say for sure? If I didn't back date anything, could JG-300 still of had G-10s?

Thanks.

Hi again Chip

JG300 certainly flew G-10s... and, staring at the rather small Revell boxtop made me hunt out a larger version - that blue-white-blue tail band is JG300's Reichsverteidigung (home defence) colours, so you've got a JG300 Bf 109G-10 in the box! The problem for you is that it's a day-fighter. As far as I can make out, JG300 switched from night- to day-fighting at around (or before) the G-10 was introduced.

But all is not lost! By coincidence... I went shopping today and found this:

A G-10 night-fighter! Flown by Hptm. Friedrich Karl Müller, of I/NLJG 11. I haven't looked for any refs yet but, if Hasegawa are to be believed, it's a real odd-ball! It's got a Schräge Musik cannon behind the cockpit and a salvaged P-38 drop tank to make up for the loss of fuel capacity in the conversion! I can scan the instructions if you want to apply the scheme to the Revell kit.

All the best

JG300's Reichsvertigund (home defence)

Correct word = Reichsverteidigung

Why do I have the feeling it was not a "coincidence" :-)

Cheers Jean-Luc

He he... I wrote "Verteidigung" to start with - High School German still at work! - and then "corrected" it thanks to Squadron's '109 In Action (Verteidigund...) and double-botched it in the process!

Sometimes I should just do what teacher told me...

Hi Rowan!

I have some Squadron "in detail" books (Bf 109, FW 190) that are full of spelling errors concerning German words... maybe I should write a feature about it! :-)

Thanks you guys. I guess I should of done a little of my own research. I got the idea to do this off of aircraftresourcecenter.com, there is a 109 in the gallery that has been painted to look like a Nachtjaeger from JG-300. Thanks again Merlin for helpin me aus.

Guten Tag an alle!

Richtig schreibt es sich so: "Zuletzt habe ich Deutsch vor 30 Jahren gelernt"

Und was hat das ganze mit "Bablefish" zu tun?

Und was hat das ganze mit "Bablefish" zu tun? = And which has the whole with "Bablefish" to do?

Hmmm... ...I fear the meaning was lost in translation. I rely on the computer to translate for me now, at babalefish: Bablefish Translator

Is that what you meant?

Hi Fred!

The translation is correct! I didn't knew the Bablefish thing... it could be of use in the future for me! I'll try to translate my next feature article with it to see what happens...

Thanks Fred!

Hi Jean-LUc

I don't think you need rely on Bablefish - your own English is very good and Bablefish isn't foolproof, by any means... I've had some great fun with Polish and Czech!

- I'd probably say "And what's the whole thing got to do with Bablefish?".

Anyway, maybe it's time to let this thread get back onto the original topic?...

All the best
