Gents,
This is my version of the JU-88
Don't start to say that the model is inaccurate...it is accurate 'cause i've read many books about this model
The original model is from Revell in 1:48 and ment to be a night fighter.
but i wanted to make a different version.
My favorite war scene for planes is the African campaign
So i've bought the right at Jadar ans downloaded as many books as possible about this model.
Thats why i made this conversion.
This model fkew over the Mediterrainian see in order to bomb or torpedo allied ships.
the ships were found by the radar installed in the plane.
therefore i had to rebuild the antenna's and airials.
Because the ones in the kit looked like cables.
The antenna's are scratchbuild and made of very thin iron wire and the side airials are made from brush hair.
The model is painted with Tamiya acryllics and washed with oils.
The oils were thinned down with Zippo fluid to obtain the perfect matt result.
As you can see the model it is ready for 99%.
the only things i have to add are a figure and some blocks for the wheels and maybe a bit more sand dust.
But overall it will be something like this
I hope you can appriciate this model because i'm not such a plane builder as the most of you will knoe but i had a great time modelling it and it won't be my last plane !!!!
enjoy the pictures.
till later
Cheers
Eric

Hi Eric!
Wow! What an amazing and interesting diorama! I like the desert camo and the spinner/engine cowlings are looking great! You said you aren't a plane specialist? This is a joke!?
Congratulations for your work!

Jean-luc,
I'm not kiddin..
i think the last plane i've build was over 15 years ago and even then i wws never staisfied with the result.
So i've started to put all my skillz that i have with AFV into this plane and i think i have done great job..

I can only agree with you! You can make more of them now! :-)
It's funny, I will take the opposite way! I only build planes and my next model will be a 1/48 Tamyia Schwimmwagen for the "Amphibs" campaign. My last vehicle was a Matchbox kit more than 20 years ago!

Hi Eric
That's a lovely job! The search-radar looks very effective and I always think the '88 looks good in tropical colours.
The wheel-hubs on Ju 88's (along with most Luftwaffe aircraft) were usually semi-gloss black, but I'm sure there were variations - I've certainly seen Bf 109s that broke this "rule".
I really look forward to seeing the finished diorama and, as Jean-Luc says, I hope we see you building more aircraft models!
All the best
Rowan

Eric,
Me thinks this looks better than my Revell/Revell-Monogram/Pro-Modeler/DML JU-88 What did you use for the aerial wire?
Did you hand-paint the canopies? I did because I could never get them masked well.
One thing, you have both ailerons set down. One should be up.
Where did the palms come from? Bandai?
Great loking diorama!

Jp,
I've seen your Ju-88 and overall you did a fine job it is a pitty that you had so much overspray with the snake pattern.
now for you questions :
The Canopies are all hand painted
It was the first plane in many many years so a mistake is made very quick concerning the Airlerons
The Palmtree is a scratchbuils model !!
There is an article here on Armorama ( me as editor ) to be found.
I hope you've got your answers...
Cheers
