TedMamere (Jean-Luc Formery) takes a look at Italeri''s welcome re-release of that former-AMT favourite - the 1/48 scale Douglas A-20G.

Hi Rowan!

Thanks for the perfect editor work... I thought the A-20 could be a good subject for the (hopefully) forthcoming "Bombs Away" Campaign.
I have more bombers kits ready to be reviewed.

I still have two of these (made up that is) from AMTs first release - they were amongst the best aircraft kits at that time so I'm sure that anyone that builds one now will find Jean-Luc's review accurate & honest - it is a good kit!
The other version from the original release time was a glass-nosed Boston (not sure of the US designation!) with markings for the RAF in North Africa, so perhaps that will resurface as well.

I have one of the first releases nearly finished (been a very long time in that condition ) I used the kit decals and they were not good, so anything will be an improvement. The tread on the tyres is wierd, like giant overlapping scales? I simply sanded off all the detail and they look fine (took me a week to find my way out of all the sanding dust :-) )
I'm not sure if I want another, even at this price, but I have been waiting for the the Boston, oh yeah

Mal, you're evil! :-) :-)

I was just about convinced about building a Privateer for Bombs Away... and now you go and mention the Boston!

I've still got one of AMTs originals on the shelf and a few old Blueprint replacement parts - fabric contol surfaces, wheels and, of course, the life-raft. Mmmmm - so tempting!

Incidentally, a little while ago I totally trashed those tyres too, but Ollie said they have a type of snow-tread - so, certainly atypical, but not totally wrong.

All the best

Hi Rowan!

Do you have spare Blueprint parts for the havoc? I would be interested...

LOL! Jean-Luc

I expect I can sort out some bits for you - but be warned... they are about 10 years old - I made them when the original kit was released. PM me your address.

All the best

Thanks Rowan that's kind of you!

I can imagine myself at a modelers contest saying to the jury: "Oh yes, I almost forgot, the fabric contol surfaces, wheels and the life-raft are from Blueprint!" :-)
I'm sure your replacement parts are like good wine. The older they get, the better they are!

Hi Jean-Luc

When you see them you might decide they were best drunk young...! :-) :-) :-)

All the best
