This is my 1:72nd Academy Tempest I built OOB about 3 weeks ago. Some of the kit decals are a little off register.

Comments welcome. Enjoy.

Hi David

That's excellent - to be honest, at first glance, I thought it was Eduard's 1/48 scale kit!

What brand paints did you use? - the RAF camo looks very good. As Marcin says, your weathering is very effective.

All the best

Hi David!

You made a lovely model of a deadly plane! I also thought it was a 1/48 kit! Great job!
Are the roundels on the wings accurate with the yellow outline? I'm so used to blue and red roundels... mmm interesting!

Thank you Guys.

Rowan, I used Model Master enamel paints.

Jean-Luc, I'm not sure if the top wing roundels are acccurate. Your question made me look at my references. It seem that most of them have just red and blue. I'm not sure if this particular aircraft have the yellow borders. Anyway, I just followed the instructions. Yes, your right. I'm used to seeing red and blue also.

Hi David

The model is fantastic, really good paint job. The guys are right about the wing roundels they are wrong for a late war Tempest. They should be red white and blue from early 1945 no yellow.

Hi again

There's an interesting passage about RAF fighters in Europe at the War's end in Michael Bowyer's Fighting Colours:

"...Another feature was the introduction of Type C roundels above the wings on both 2nd TAF and ADGB fighters. About March, many squadrons added a thin yellow surround to these, but no specific order seems to have been given to do this."

I found the following pics of Tempests with the yellow surround, but the variation in roundel sizes is also interesting:

I hope this helps.

Thanks Rowan. Cool pic. That is very interesting. Maybe one of the wing is a replacement from another Tempest. Can't see the yellow ID markings on the leading edge of wings.

I don't know anything about markings, I just wanna say that I'm inspired with the scale and quality of your paint.
