Well, this is my first WWI kit. And another of a few Bi-planes in the stash. I'm looking forward to this one, though I have no idea on where to find references.

Now this looks great. I've been reading for years on the web about AM stuff like Decals for the lozenge decals and seen them for around $15-$20 for a sheet you cut shape then place on the kit. then Don't forget any PE would also run you an arm and leg. well this is what I found in the box. and it made my decision easier...

Well wish me luck and any help on rerfernces will be appeciated. STUG

Hi Steve

It's great to see you tackling a WW1 kit - and you won't go too far wrong with one from Eduard! I expect Jackflash will be able to sort you out with some helpful tips and refs for building the Pfalz.

All the best

Thanks guys I really appreciate the help. I'll be hitting up those web page. Rowan your right this a beautiful kit. I'm working the PE now it's really cool that the entire office is mostly PE. I wish there were more companies out there that added that much stuff to the kits.

Just bringing up this thread to showcase a build in the November 2006 MOM. Very decent work on an Eduard Weekend kit.

I had a question recently about the silver trim around the horizontal tail shown in the kit profile.

Laws of Modeling rule #16.) The kit instructions, may be very interesting, but are 95 % of the time irrelevant.

On the real aircraft that is an area where the dk. blue is worn and the factory aluminum dope is showing through at the edges. The border your looking at is uneven and about an inch at the widest point.

A little history is needed here. First this is a Jasta 18 machine and was flown by a Gefreiter (private) Hitschler until his transfer to Jasta 57 on 25 January 1918. This machine was then given to Ltn. von Buttlar (and sometime after that when the solid background and hunting horn was applied over the striped area.) Later images of this version show that the tail and fuselage was also "touched up" and the worn area repainted.
