Hello all!
I´ve been around this one for long time..
Now i´ve decided to use it as test for paints
first time using Alclad2, and testing Marabu clear coat.
What do you think?

Hi José,
Yeah, I wanna know, too!
Your Buff is turning into a good looking build! I am glad you didn't use the same yellow on the tail as on the wings (two different colors for those not familiar with pre-war USN).

Hi Merlin and JPTRR
Thanks for the comments!
Marabu is a brand of paints, produced in germany, that sells in those stores of clay figures that you can paint. (in Portugal mainly saints)
I´ve seen it used by spanish modellers and found it on a store in the island where i live.
It´s water based, and i thinned it with Tamiya acrilic thinner.
It exist in Matt, satin and gloss, the one beeing used for tests is ths satin one.
It sprays wonderfuly!

Thanks José
Marabu is now firmly on my "hit-list" of products to track done for wider exposure!
Keep us posted on your Buffalo - it looks a beauty!
All the best

I would have used the same color! Can you tell us more about that Fred?
Nice paint job José! This will turn into a beautiful model for sure... it's Tamiya's 1/48 kit I presume? I would just make some touch-ups were the blue decals meets the gun fairings on the wings...

No no no Jean-Luc...
It's Lemon Yellow (ident. colour) F.S. 13655 on the tail vs standard Chrome Yellow F.S. 13538 on the wings.
All the best
Rowan
The F.S. numbers are "best equivalents".

Well, as the guy said to Jack Lemmon at the end of the Movie "Some like it Hot"... nobody's perfect! :-)
I presume the yellow on the wings was the "safety" color in case the plane crashed in the sea while the other yellow was the unit's distinctive color... I can Imagine the dialogue:
Navy Pilot responsable for flying the plane:
- "We could just paint the yellow on the wings with the same color as the tail!"
Navy Officer responsable for the paint schemes:
- "What! No way! It MUST be this very precise yellow! Our rescue pilots were trained to spot THAT yellow and not another one! But you can change the color of the tail to match it to the wings if you want..."
Navy Pilot ...
- "What! Change our unit color! No way! Let's just use two slightly different shades of yellow then!"
Things are not simple for modelers...

Hi again Jean-Luc
You're giving away our European origin! US pilots in the '30s were specifically trained in Yellow Awareness.
Joking aside - it all makes for a more accurate model - so full marks to José for doing it right!
All the best
