Yeah Todd, I saw this last week. I'm hoping that it's better than the Revell and good as their CH-46. I also heard that the interior is going to be as basic as the 46. Can't wait to get one or two

Hey I'm happy with an accurate shell, when it comes to the interior I'll do some scratch work. As long as the exterior is a decent start I'll fill in the details. And the Revell GS wasn't a bad start either w/ Cobra detail sets u can really do a bang up helo. Chris is a great dude and us Helo builders can be thankful for guys like him, considering he's the only Helo cottage AM dude. I've always wanted the Herc and the hook and I already have both to start, so I'll take an "E" as well to stock the collection. The 35th 47 from Trumpeter is gonna be off the wall.

1/48th is still good enough for me. As long as it is a larger than 1/72 E, I'm happy.

Jeff,
Hey even in 1/48 the 53 is about 17" long. Just the right size to do some decent detailing and painting.
Now IF U want BIG wait till you get your PAWS on the Trumpeter 1/35 CH-47............now thats BIG. Too Much for my shelf.

I am waiting for a possible D version to come out for the -47.

As for the CH-53E, I figured that a.) Academy would release it in 1/35 just as they did the Sea Knight and b.) that even if they didn't, that 1/48 would be big enough. I am just looking for compatibility for adding figures to it; there are no 1/48 OIF soldiers.

Jeff, Academy never put out a 1/35th CH-46 Sea Knight, I wish that they had The ones that are out now are all in 1/48th. They just released their 3rd edtion of the 46 with the flag markings of the VR/63, HC-11 "Gunbearers" Det 2, USS Camden.

Is this all new tooling or Revell tooling? I hope its new tooling, because the Revell one is kind of out dated.

I'm already saving my pennies for this one. This will be the one to make me break my self-imposed kit buying embargo. I think I can make room on the stash shelf for one more kit...

I just might have a full USMC flightline on the shelves with this, the -46, and my V-22.

Would you think that the "old" Revell with some aftermarket stuff making it into a pave low would go well togehter with the new 1/48 kit???

Or is the detail on this old revell kit too poor to stand an honest chance next to this new model?

Revell's kit's detailing is pretty good and still looks good today. They are different animals though, not the same aircraft in both kits. Still need the Revell one to make a PaveLow III.

The Revell is a CH-53D, which can be converted to a MH-53J PaveLow III with the Cobra Company set and details from Meteor Prodcutions(?).

The new Academy one is a CH-53E. The E model is larger than the D. Has 7, instead of 6 rotor blades. Has a 3rd engine mounted on the left side. The tail is totally different with a larger tail rotor and angled, larger tail plane as well. PaveLows are not made out of E models.
