1/32 Tomcat or Strike Eagle???

Hi,
I am for the most part a tread head, but every now and then I get the itch to build a few of those "wingy" things. Well I've been bitten by the bug, and I'm thinking about building either the Tamiya 1/32 Tomcat, or the F-15 Strike Eagle. I have built both of these in 1/48 and went all out, this time I just want to build one OOTB. I just thought I would solicit opinions on the above models.

If you're after a good OOTB kit, go with any of the A-4 Skyhawk or F-16 Falcon versions that Hasegawa produces.
If you are intent on the F-14 or 15, I recommend the F-15C. Have fun!

Hi ,

I'm a big fan of F-14 , but Tamiya product is very old - of course F-14 ,even version 1994 has raised panel lines , so I prefer F-15 E ( - winner of gold medal in Norymberg Model show , I think in nineties ? ) and F-15 C .

The Tamiya F-14 Is a good kit. Some areas of concern are the intakes fitting at the fuselage. But not a major problem to overcome. The kit has raised and recessed panel lines. For the most part very sweet. And the final product is well worth the time spent. You can view mine in the gallery area in aircraft. I used the Cam F-14D conversion kit , but wanted the VF-111 Sundowners Hi-Vis . (I perfer Navy aircraft , even the landing gears look big and mean. Not like the bird legs of the Air Force ships.)

I have built the F-15E and it is a really nice kit, but needs a little work, like any kit. I never built the F-14 (yet) but from other reviews I understand the cocpit panels (like the Trumpeter A-10) are just decals. Is that right? The F-15E has a really nice cockpit, but if you leave the figures out, the seats have no seatbelts. I know you;re going OTB, but you may want to look into replacements here or scratchbuild seat belts....

Let us know what you decide...

Both can speed up your heart rate. But neither are as ugly - and as thrilling - as the old F4 !

Jan is absolutely spot on !! it's a lean, mean killing machine.....

If ya' want more, better stick to the F4

I also agree, F4 Phantom has a certain look about it. Great looking aircraft, a classic. Here is my 1/32 sacle old Revell F4-J converted to an F4-C USAF in Vietnam dio.

Hey Mike,

If you are really willing to dish out so much money on those Tamiya jets, why not get the brand new Trumpeter 1/24 Mustang....sure looks much pretty than the Mudhen and the Cat.....and at about the same price.

Thanks for the info guys, I think I'm leaning toward the F-15, or maybe the F-16. I really like the Tomcat but I'm definitely not in the mood to sand down and etch panel lines. The F-4, and Mustang are food for future thought also.

I must say those guys are right on. The Tamiya F-4 series is by far the best 1/32 scale jet s out there. They fit great and with little or no sanding. The main body is one piece. ,no seam down the middle at all. The Marine F-4J is limited production, but is loaded. And the decals selection they offer is great.Cockpit is awesome also. Very detailed and accurate. You'll love it.
