I haven't put together a model since I was a kid. That said, I have a little bit more patience now. I would live to make a very detailed and true to life model of an actual combat version of this plane. I have exhausted all of the online reasearch I could find. It was largely dedicated to museum and airshow planes that didn't see any actual combat. Of course, any combat photos that I did find were not in color. What is the best way to go about beginning this model? I am willing to spend as much time as necessary to get it right. Also, how realistic is a conversion to one of the Doolittle Raiders? I know it was a different version of the plane. Perhaps I should stick with the "J" version and avoid conversions with it being my first real model in quite some time.

I don't know too much in the way of tanks that fly but, I did find a few builds on it.

I'd say stick to the kit for now. To do the Doolittle version, you'd have to move the turret back, remove the side windows (with their .50's), put in small rear windows on either side, remove the tail gunner's position and rebuild the tail adding a broomstick bogus MG. Accurate may have had the correct version, but I'm not sure about that.

The J mod of the B25 is a great build.One place that you could try for combat pics
is the Boeing aircraft site. They store a great deal of aircraft pics and some plans,
even many from other companies

If I remember rightly, the B25 features heavily in the film version of 'Catch 22' perhaps that would give you some ideas. Of course they are not in their original schemes, but I would imagine that anyone who goes to the trouble of flying a restored warbird will certainly take the trouble to have it fairly authentic.

EK, Accurate Minatures has 2 kits in 1/48 scale that are of the early versions of the B-25. They are pricy, about 45.00 to 50.00, but you will not have to convert anything. I just finished the Monogram kit and it was an ill-fitting puppy. From waht I have heard the Accurate is great. Might be worth checking into.

Sorry, forgot to mention this but, one of the Accurate kits is of the Doolittle's Raiders
